My buddy just got a two seater mid engine frame for free (score!!!). I've got a transmision that was built for a rear engine four seater and never used. Do I have to do anything besides the mid engine style linkage to make this tranny work?
Also, does anyone have a line on a fairly inexpensive engine that I can put in it for him? He is very new to dunin' and knows next to nothing about motors. I wanted to start him out pretty basic like a VW 1835 w/ a single carb. Reliable, easy to work on, and enough power to learn with.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

Is the tranny an IRS or swingaxle? If its a swingaxle you need to have someone flip the ring gear so the tranny runs backwards. That is fairly inexpensive to have done or you can do it your self if you have mech. abilities. Basically romeve the complete axle asem and put it on other side of the tranny. If its IRS that cost some cash cause you have to machine the case. GOOD LUCK!

thanks. It's a swing so it sounds pretty simple. I've built/customized eight vw's but never did the tranny work myself. With his frame, my tranny and front beam, I'll be able to build this rail for under $4,000 !!!
