My boss just notified me today that he can't afford to keep my shop open any longer. He's going to be shutting down and I'm going to be losing my job either at the end of this month or shortly thereafter. I'm looking for something in San Diego, preferably in the East County.

Most of my work experience is in the field of electronics. I was a sonar tech in the Navy for 10 years. I've been repairing medical equipment for the past couple of years. I would prefer to stay in an electronics-based field, but am open to other options. I would prefer full-time, but am open to part-time work as well.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Man that sucks, sorry to hear that and goold luck man.

Need a break from the working, walking, and standing required by the demanding and stressful life you lead?

Well, pack your bags for Houston because NASA wants to pay you $17,000 to stay in bed for 90 straight days.

The bed-rest experiment, to take place in the Human Test Subject Facility of Johnson Space Center, is designed to allow scientists to study some of the effects of microgravity on the human body. We read on the Bed Rest Study website: It’s unclear, however, whether you’ll be allowed to read with a flashlight under the covers. Jokes aside, astronauts who’ve spent lengthy stays in space have suffered serious repercussions. Our bodies have evolved mechanisms to deal with a certain amount of gravitational force–namely, the amount present on Earth; reduce g and blood pools in the feet, muscles atrophy and bones lose their density. It can take astronauts (or cosmonauts) months to readjust to the Earth’s gravitational force.

If you’re still interested, feel free to apply. You’ll have to pass the Air Force medical examination standards and take a blood test, which we assume means that you won’t have any help from recreational drugs to alleviate the boredom of lying prone for 2,160 hours.

Things are looking up. My uncle is buddies with the hiring manager down at 32nd St Naval Station for the civil service. His immediate supervisor also worked with my grandpa years and years ago at North Island. They got to talking and my uncle mentioned how Jimmy was former Navy and might be interested in a civil service job, so the guy had Jimmy send in a resume. That was 3 months ago. Jimmy was finally called in for an interview last week (yeah, the government works slowly as we all know). The interview went really well and the latest word my uncle got from his buddy is that he was 90% sure he was going to hire Jimmy. Only problem is we won't get the word for another 5 weeks or so, but my uncle's buddy encouraged him to wait for the offer. It's not a 100% sure thing, but 90% is pretty dang good.

So we're keeping our fingers crossed. My grandpa retired from the civil service and he was former Navy during WWII and Jimmy's dad also went into the civil service after being in the Navy during Vietnam. Both were able to make pretty decent lives for themselves and their families along with a good retirement and benefits. That's what we're after here......a future and security. Please wish Jimmy well icon_biggrin.gif
