My turbo now has a whine to it for the 1st few seconds after start up.
Anyone else have this in the past? What was the issue?
Is it worth it to rebuild?
Where is a good place in the San Diego area?

Might just be 'cause the bearing is dry. Once oil pressure hits it the noise goes away?
THe HTT kit on my DMAX has a check valve in the feed line so the oil doesn't drain back when the engine is off.

Probably but it never did it before.

Not that expensive to rebuild. Inconsistent bearing noise is not good. One of the best turbo guys in the country is right down the street from us. Ship it to Havasu!

Not mocking you or anything, but are you sure its the turbo? My Dmax hada pulley that made noise until it got all warmed up. Itook it to the dealer and the re-aligned the pulley.

could be a belt driven accessory ? pull the belt and start it. that will be a quick way to eliminate a few possible items

Thanks for the good words wreck. Sounds like a balance issue. thrust seal could be going causing it. We have kits on the shelf to rebuild if you want to bring it by.
