Fri night - I've just cleared the rise and I can see all the rigs on Gecko.. icon_cool.gif My foot starts laying in the throttle a little harder.. Look down - SHEESH - Think to my self - "slow down man - 70 with the trailer is a bad ticket".. I slow..
Thoughts passing through my head of hitting the dunes - I start drifting off in to my thoughts of another ride - ripping bowls.. I come to and Im going 70 again.. DANG man.. I set the cruise control when I see the flares.. OH NO.. Im about 1/4 mile from the canal and Im thinking the worst.. a bad crash.. NO - no one is allowed to get hurt - and I come up and see the more flares.. then a sign saying "SLOW"
THen another sign saying prepare to STOP blink.gif I realize its not a crash and thats when I see ALL the big lights. I mean TONS of those spot lights and lots of vehicles.. hmmmmm. I start to get nervous as I pull up..
there must be a 3-4 highway patrol cars and then a dozen or so rangers and BLM.. ph34r.gif blink.gif
As I pull up in to the lights - a CHiPy waves me on. "WHEW" I think as I take a drink of my water.. As I pass the big lights I see it... "THE STAGING AREA".
This staging area was set up for LOTS and I mean LOTS of vehicles. There were 4 lanes maked out with cones and there were so many cops I was like WOW!! shock.gif
There were a dozen or so rigs pulled over and I drove on.. Couldnt be late and miss out on my chance to be in the inner circle.. laughing.gif
I pulled in to camp with 3 rigs and we all sat around the fire talking about that check point..
They were checking VINs, registrations, and everything. They help Esco there for almost an hour but I will let him tell his story..
So it appears they are hearing us when we ask for things like this.. I have no problem waiting in line if they are not going to close any more of our dunes..
Hoping that was a test run for whats to come on New Years.. Be nice to catch the punks and underage animals before they even get to Glamis..

Were you checked?

Did they go into your trailer?
Chummin
WFO,
No - The law prevents them from opening your enclosed trailer without cause. They didnt even ask.. The Open trailers were being checked.
WaPaWeKkA
Usually, they will only check open trailers with a lot of bikes. I've rolled in their with just my truck and a bike in the back and they have waved me through every time, but everytime i go with my parents and we have 4-5 bikes on the trailer, they will stop us.

yeah I had a temp registration and have not receive my green sticker from DMV, the Imperial county sherrif wanted to impound my buggy cuz the Temp registration # didnt match the VIN #, CHP cleared it up but the sherrif was hot to impound, or write a ticket I was like come on guy, the CHP said its all paid up to date and in my name, just because DMV is slow dont blame me, finally after about 1/2hr to 45 mins, wasnt quite an hour but it felt like 2, he said okay go

Amazing just how hard these "Yahoo's" will work when it comes to collecting money!

Frank,

I assume you went to the dmv after the chp put on your vin number. When I went to the dmv, they gave me the green sticker and registration right there. The only thing I had to wait for was the pink slip. Doesn't sound right that they didn't give you the green sticker at the dmv. icon_confused.gif
Esco
after the CHP I actually just put the paperwork in there drop off box, the line was too long and didnt feel like making an appointment to going back, but I did all that nov 12th
Bohica
I always thought you had to do new titles or registrations in person. You may want to follow up and make sure your not effed. Looks like you had a blast this past weekend. We need to get back on the same schedule. Looks like New Years. icon_biggrin.gif
Esco
CHP said everything is processed, just waiting on papers, and when I took the papers after the VIN the lady said I could either stand in the 2hr line or just throw it in the box, took the easy way for me of course..

new years will be our next trip.

You forgot to add that you are holding ticket number G-321, and have been waiting for an hour already......They put that stupid ticket system in our DMV, and it's quadrupled the wait time. Even the window clerks say it's extremely inefficient..Eff the DMV and the idiots who pretend to "manage" it.... angryfire.gif

I agree, eff the DMV....I went there early the other day so I could get in early....ha what a joke. I was in line at 7 am to take the written test for my class m1. They opened the doors at 8 am and I still didn't get inside until 9am then I had to wait for another 30 minutes to have my number called. Apparently our new state budget only allows for a skeleton crew to open the office and run it until 10am when the rest of the employees are allowed to show up(budget crisis)......and Grey Davis wanted to let illegals have licenses when the system barely works for the people who deserve licenses(US CITIZENS) oh yeah that was a hard decision to make at the polls..........lol

That ol topic we flapped about carrying your "protection" to "G" may put up a flare - if you get stopped at the checkpoint. Once those dudes get on a roll, and hit the "probable cause" level of searchin' your vehicle, you better make damn sure you got your gun stored properly. Kinda of a drag too - I usual have mine near and ready during the late night traveling. Now I have ten more things to add to my list before I leave: properly store gun, check ALL signals and running lights, registration docs, properly secured load in the bed of my pickup, no cracks in windshield, front license plate, etc, etc, etc. Man, you don't have to deal with any of this in Ocotillo Wells! Regulation after Regulation in Glamis and no fees in Ocotillo either! I know we need enforcement out in Glamis - otherwise it'd be a complete war zone - but, I sure hope they're shaggin' the right "targets."

How is Buttercup compared to Glamis with the rangers/chps/sheriffs and of course attitude of the fellow duners? Might have to go check that out -

DMV - ya I agree, a frickin' arm pit - on the walkin deal I usually go in at 1/2 hour before they close - they're working very quickly cause they want to go home when the whistle blows - "yabba dabba doooooo." They pick the most pasty faced miserable people to work there - never met one nice DMV employee! Then (you guys got me started now) I start lookin around and I'm standing in this building and 60 -70% of the people look like crack heads - with they're kids cryin and snot runnin to the ground, borderline domestic disputes flowing - what a mess, and to think I share the road with these people! pretty scary.
