What do you guys do? Is there anything to do?
A buddy owes me some money and I can get his 40'DP but I have a 24' enclosed trailer.
I figure with tongue and hitch I'd be about 69'
Isnt California 65' max?
What would I have to do? I dont want commercial license do I? insureance goes way up with that I think and Blood Alcohol Level goes down to like .03 or .05?
Probably not a good idea? I need the 24' trailer for all the toys....... SOL!?
thanks in advance

Pay the extra insurance and drink less (or even better, not at all) if your going to be driving a huge set-up like that if this is the only way you'll get the dough.

stay at home when you drink,
pay the insurance that would be a sweet combo

It's easy.
When you're driving the rig, never make eye contact with a CHP.
However, if he pulls you over anyway, pull out your specially made tape measure that's missing the first 5 ft. When you help him hold the tape measure, it will come out to 64' and he'll apologize and send you on your way.

What kind of license is needed?
Is it tough to get?
Do you need anything like air brake status for license or alike?
thanks

But I don't think you can make a breathalyzer with the needed missing percentile, so don't drink and drive!!!!

Having a comm lic wont allow you to be any longer. You will still be restricted to 65 feet. So either way, your screwed.

Trailer length : one trailer 28 feet 6 inches maximum
other trailer may be longer than 28 feet 6 inches
Overall length : 65 feet maximum

69 feet, minor issue.......I was 77 last trip. Stressful, not going to do it again. If you are 5 feet over you are right up there with the majority of the people towing with diesel pushers and wont stand out in the crowd. If you go much longer it gets pretty obvious and then you are asking for attention. Its all illegal over 65 feet, its just a matter of balancing risk.

was thinking of just playing bumb....not too hard for me!
no drinking and driving here......just heard thats one of the shortened requirements.
As it was said, most 38'DP with trailer are over too. I just may be a little more over!
thanks
WHAT'S NEXT?

I have the same set-up. My DP is 41ft and I pull a 24 foot trailer behind it. So far I have not had any problems. I have been passed and followed by CHP and nothing. Just dont give them a reason to pull you over. The DP is is quite a bit taller than the trailer which makes the trailer look smaller and shorter. I'd say do it! Worst comes to worse you play dumb, thats my plan

Just remember they CAN tell you to call someone to get your trailer to its final destination cuase you aint moving it being over length.

At the end of the 2006 season, I got pulled over for over length along with another guy. It was a big hassle.
I run on the 111 now.

That's if they are being nice! They can tell to pick it up from the impound yard but not with the same rig and bring a cash.

Maybe leave your trailer at glamis dunes storage?
I would think it would be smarter to leave a trailer and pos truck at glamis dunes storage. Drive the bus, then have someone take you to pick up the truck and trailer combo?
I am thinking about buying a trailer and leaving it hooked up the the excursion.
That way I can take my fusion to the dunes doin 70 the whole way there, then switch for the excursion when I get there?

21 ft stacker with a 4 foot tongue with a 40ft Moho = 65ft

Just store the moho and trailer at Glamis Dunes Storage, then drive the commuter car to/from the dunes. Save on fuel, reduces the risk of getting nailed.

I think these laws are only for fifth wheel trailers and don't apply to dp's?

I usually keep either my RV or enclosed at an RV park in Fallon, Nevada. It cost me 40. per month and saves me way more than that each time I drive either the truck or little car up and just jump in the RV. Good deal but hate keeping the RV outside when not using it.
Hard to beat 40. per month.
Doubt I would ever be pulled over in Nevada at that length or for the 30 mile trip to the dunes from Fallon.
thanks, I may have to pick it up!

First don't drink & drive but you dont need the commercial licence, get the class A non commercial and all of the points/limits are the same as your class c.

Im surprised the issue of BAC was even mentioned. (not to bash) If you know your gonna drive, dont even think about drinking. If you get in an accident it will be an issue if they smell it on you. With a commercial license it is zero tolerance. .oo I have a B license with an x endorsement, I can tow an electric brake trailer with gvw up to 10,000lbs obvioulsy as long as it is within the gvw and tow ratings of the tow vehicle. Sometimes the DP's dont have that great of a tow rating so check that too if you are gonna be over length.
