As our kids get older our Dodge Dually Crew Cab keeps getting smaller. We are looking at selling our 06 Rampage 5ver and Pickup and getting a Class A with a 20-24ft trailer. We are on a small budget here and have a guy I work with that is looking to upgrade to a Pusher MH. He told me he would sell me his 02 Fleetwood Terra 32' gasser with 7k miles for $27k. I think this is a good price for this MH. It's in immaculate condition. Problem is it doesn't have any slides. We have 3 kids and really would like to get into a Class A. Kids are ages 10,8 and 4. I have been kinda spoiled having 2 slides on the 5ver and want to make sure that I will be alright with a Class A with no slides so I figured I would ask here. Any of you out there with a Class A and "No" slides want to offer your opinion? Hard to believe when I was a kid going camping with our slide in camper in the back of the truck and not complaining about room. Guess we are kinda spoiled nowadays. So what's your opinion?

In my opinion it will be tight, friend had an 05' with no slides, traded it in after a year. With the price of gas, would you be better off keeping the fifth wheel? I have a gas guzzling Class A. In this market, I am sure the guy does not have people beating down his door to buy it, maybe offer him some $$ to rent for the weekend and take it to a local spot to try out. That may be his best offer at this point with Gas prices.

Hard to imagine that an 02 would have no slides, I thought most by that year had at least one in the living area. The market for buying used mohos is all yours now, I am sure you could find one with a living room slide for close to the same price. You also gotta think re-sale, and with three kids its going to get crowded.

Slides make a HUGE difference. If I had a choice of a toyhauler with no slides or a Class A with no slides, I'd take the TH.

TNT- FYI, you can buy brand new Class A's with no slides to this date.

I got a class a with slides, now I wished I bought a class c with slides. IMHO the important slide is the living room slide, makes it feel like your not even camping.... So much more room, kids can even play on the floor.
Also some of the newer moho's are wide body so that even makes it wider.
Also the financing is going to suck on a used moho, but the tax is write offable if your itemize and pay taxes.

I think you will regret it instantly. Also I think 27k is too much for that moho. And IMHO you could get the same vintage or newer moho equally as nice but like TNT said with at least a living/dining slide for probabally LESS.At the bare minium......don't jump just yet.Research and see what you can get.It is a BUYERS MARKET and toy's are allways the FIRST to go!!! Side note:nothing makes a camping trip more frustrating than tripping over everbody in a small spaced rolling domicile wife.gif wife.gif wife.gif wife.gif wife.gif

Are you in a hurry to buy?

If you are looking for a gasser, I have a feeling that right now EVERYONE is trying to figure out the effect of rising gasoline prices on gasoline powered motorhomes.

Keep your eyes open. If you can take your time, you might find someone trying to get out from under a MH at a price you can't pass up since gasoline has doubled in price over the last five minutes (OK, so that's a bit of an overstatement, but you get the idea).

there is more to life than slides...but...you should already know how you feel about this....sounds like slides are important to you.....but you will live without them...at 27k I'd get what I wanted.........

You hold all the cards as a buyer in this market, find what you want (slide). 27g buys a whole bunch these days.

No slide no way. you might have a line on a good deal now but the Motor home market place is in the toilet just like every thing else, hold out for a slide.

I have a 36' class A with a very large family room slide. I also have three kids, smaller than yours. Things get pretty tight sometimes. No slides and 32' means 2 to 4 people max.

Well Dave, what did you do????

Make sure you can live in the coach with the slides in. If you're just driving 2 hours out to the dunes, it's not a big deal, but you'll probably want to use the rig in the summer, too. If you're on a 12-hour drive, and there's some essential function that can't be used with the slides in, that will suck. Plus, sometimes, on a multi-day trip, you get to camp and just don't want to bother. If you can't get into your bedroom without sliding out, that would also suck.

And look up the coach in the NADA guide on-line (or, for the money you're spending, pay the hundred bucks for the dealer guide). For the online guide, the low retail without options is a good baseline offer. Keep in mind that most sellers will check every box on the NADA website, even if the item was included in the base price when new.

One thing I've noticed in my shopping is that, once you get past 10 years old (IE, the rig's paid off), the asking prices are usually pretty close to this. But when you're looking newer, people try to get out what they owe on the rig, and that just ain't gonna happen. RV depreciation is brutal. 40% in the first year is not uncommon, based on my research. If you're financing an RV, expect to be underwater until it's paid off.

Really, really good dope is here. There are a couple of other links in that thread that should also be read.

You can get a 96-99 pusher with slides for 30K. Sounds like a under 20K MOHO look up base book at NADA and it is worth about half right now. BTW you will not fit in a 32 without slides. Since he is a friend see if he will let you take it for the weekend with your family and see for yourself.

I have a 35ft double slides, and I think size wise it's perfect, the living room and dinnete both slide out, both chairs swing around, and the bed and a 5 foot closet slides out. You can open the door to the bath room and it locks against the fridge and makes a perfect master bedroom with dressing room (I hate mohos that are a pain to get dressed in.....)

From an investment perspective, any Class A without slides will depreciate much faster than one with. Your 27k will be worth 15k in a year. Just hold out.

Go point on the depreciation. I would not buy a moho without a slide.

I have a 29' class c without a slide. There are 5 of us in the family. 3 of us have been racing out of it for the last 3 seasons and we've survived so far. Would more room be nice? Sure it would. Would I buy a motorhome without a slide? I'm looking for a class 8 without a slide right now.
Hurricane Owner
Ive got a Class A without a slide. We went with it because we use it for camping also. Sometimes we end up in spots that don't have much room, and a slide would not be comfortable. Usually its just my daughter and I. I have a wife, 13yo, 8yo with special needs, and a new born. So far we have been comfortable on our trips with the whole family, even though that's a rare occasion. We have been happy with it.
