I dont know why but i have been thinking about this for a while now. it might be a good question or it might be too easy but what is Glamis?

where did glamis get its name?
how old is the name?
what does glamis really mean? (if there is a meaning)

to go along with this what about some of the other deserts?
i.e. Gordon's well? Buttercup? Superstition? and so on...

let me know any info

Named after a castle in Scottland . . .
The Pastor
The story goes;
As the first settlers came to the area they remarked about the beautiful "Castles in the sand" and so named the place Glamis after a famous Scottish castle.

Very good Pastor. Glamis was named for a castle in 1600 Scotland, and was pronounced "Glahmus". The castle is also mentioned in Shakespeare's MacBeth...MacBeth, Slap likes the sound of that name. icon_wink.gif

Slap also heard through the dune ripples that the size of the castle is quite large with extending property; biggest of the big, as is Glamis, so hence the name. But don't be quote Slap on that one.

thats totally cool. i never figured it would come from that distance away from here. anyone know any stories of the hills and how they became of themselves?

i.e.
oldsmobile
comp
china wall
etc...

i know a few are somewhat obivious but i think its interesting to hear the history of it.

also anyone know any history on gordons?far as the orgins of the name and what about patton valley? where did that name come from?

its a joy to hear the history of our deserts we ride in instead of just going out there all the time. now i know alittle more about the desert to appreciate more of it.

thanks everyone

There was a town in the 1800's west of Death Valley, in northern Mojave called Dunmovin. It's still shows up on some random maps. Guess how it got its name!
Great open desert riding as long as you stay out of the China Lake weapons area. unsure.gif
