A friend brought the Duncan Racing photo bike out. Only mods were Duncan Fat Boy 4 exhaust. and graphics of course.

It sounded like a Harley on Steroids! icon_cool.gif It is so easy to ride, it is wrong! icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

Those things are awesome. Here's a story for you all...

I went out to Painted Gorge (South Ocotillo) with a few friends at TG and had a chance to ride one. Not the chance I was looking for, nonetheless a chance...

I've never been out to Ocotillo before... I personally prefer sand icon_biggrin.gif . Doesn't hurt when you fall, doesn't mess up the bikes, much better to look at, etc. I'm also not familiar with ANY of the terrain out there at all. So, the sun is going down, people are pretty much back at camp and we're all just sitting around BS'ing. I've been sitting there looking at this dim red light on the side of a nearby mountain for awhile. Not just a hill, one of the biggest ones out there. So, it gets dark, and everybody asks where "Chris" is. (Chris has a 2002 F350 PS CC LB and a 26' Terry toyhauler, a Kawi 700, Kawi 400, LT50 for his little girl and a 2002 XR50 for him.) I start laughing and say, "He's over on that hill over there." Honestly, I had no idea where he was. His wife jumps into his 350, starts flashing the lights. All the sudden that dim red light starts flashing. She flashes again, it flashed back. (We're talking a distance of say the Glamis store to Wash 8 or so...maybe further.)

After we all decide that this is Chris... no one is riding anymore in any of the camps... his wife starts getting her stuff together like she's gonna go rescue him. She's got maybe 2 years of experience under her belt. I put gas in the 700 for her and decided at the same time that I wasn't gonna let her go out there. I've got 20 years of riding under my belt, she needs to stay at camp with the daughter. So I hop on this HUGE 700 for the first time. She shows me how to shift (reverse, drive, etc) and I'm off.

I hit the gas in the flats and it just took off. Not as soon as the 250R, but it got there and it got there comfortably. So I'm looking for this guys lights while trying to navigate my way up this mountain for the first time with little ass boulders under me. I start out going up, then in an effort to "cut a quicker line" I end up in a valley wash, no wider than the bike and NO tracks...time to get out of here. I turn to the right to go up the hill... make it 10 feet up and the rocks just slide out from under me which gets me stuck. I'm about to hop off- then I remember reverse. Backed that biatch down, continued through the wash and tried another right hander up the hill. This time I hit the throttle HARD...and...it kept going. I'm sitting there holding on for dear life... in pitch black... one headlight ... on rocks... poited straight towards the top of this hill I've never been on, steeper than anything I've been on in Glamis. Basically thinking I'm gonna die pretty soon... or definitely break something vital. Looking, looking, I see the top, turn right on the ridge and what do ya know, he's right in front of me about 50 yards. I hit the gas on this ridge about 200 ft high, no wider than the bike. I get close enough to see him and he's jumping, hollaring, screaming, "STOP! STOP!" So I stop and I get off the bike. He was standing at the edge of another drop off, almost straight down on all sides. I look over the edge...his bike is just barely holding on. He proceeds to tell me how effing crazy I am and how he thought I was his wife at first, making him think she's gonna kill herself. I made it. After calming down, he then tells me that we need to get 4 or 5 guys out here with a tow strap to get the bike up to us. I look at him and say, "F**k that! Do you have any idea what I just went through to get up here? I'm not going back to camp, back up here and back to camp again...we can get it. I run down behind the bike pushing on the 6 pack rack and he gets off to the left of it. He starts it up, and I start to push. Not realizing the spot I put myself in, I feel 6 inch rocks flying right past my knees and ankles. I kept pushing, he kept hitting the throttle and we got it. Screw getting help. After taking a better trail back, we end up at camp. I get bombarded with, "Dude, your effing crazy" and "Thank you SOOOOOO much". Hey, not a problem, I got to ride the 700... and it KICKED ASS. Everyone said they thought I was done for cause all they saw was this bike going STRAIGHT up something that NO ONE goes up...ever.

I had to wake up early and head to work so I didn't get a chance to check it out but, I got a phone call halfway through the day and this is what was said...
"Dude, you're a maniac. We went and looked at what you climbed up and it was almost a flat wall. There were no tire tracks anywhere except yours. The other side was just as steep too. Damn, you're crazy!" They then proceeded to tell me that none of the guys there that had 25+ years riding experience in Ocotillo even wanted to go out in the dark on those hills.... sissies icon_biggrin.gif

So I guess he got and itch to go "Billygoatin'" up a Mountain next to one that we both made it up on our 50's earlier on in the day and his 400 couldn't do what the 50's could. laughing.gif

Bottom line, that 700 is a MONSTER! It's comfy, allows you to keep on the throttle and it doesn't bounce around... it seemed like it really wanted all 4 wheels on the ground as soon as possible. Not bad for when you want to be safe and just chill on a ride. I liked it so much I thought about getting one.

Sorry it was so long, just thought I'd let you guys know what to take on your next rescue.

what a story..you know. i parked mine at the bottom of race bowl and nailed it, it kept picking up speed the whole way up..the fact that it could get enough tire spin to go up from a dead stop was to awe at.... (out in Glamis)
I have ridden mine at Ocotillo and it was sweet getting back from a l-o-n-g ride and not being tired or sore like my buddies on quads and bikes were complaining about......so far I am pleased with mine...the rear suspension is a bit too soft though. I was jumping the cliffs along the washes at Ocotillo and it bottoms out somewhat easier then other bikes.definitely doesn't handle the air like a DS650 does...
