What are some ways and methods of breaking in a New Banshee?
The Manual says the first 10 hours at 1/2 throttle... Is this too much time or is it wise?
Advice please.............

My method was to first do several heat cycles at your house. Let the engine run, varying the throttle a little until you can't hold your hand against the sides of the cylinders. Then shut it off. Wait for it to completely cool (at least a half hour), then run another heat cycle. Do that a few times.
Then when you take it out, run at least one tank of gas of riding moderate, not over half throttle, but constantly varying your speed. Don't ride at a constant pace and avoid any hill climbs that are more than a few seconds (like, don't climb Olds or China Wall). Also, on that first tank of gas, let the bike cool down quite often. Maybe ride it for 10-15 minutes, let it cool for 10-15 minutes, etc.
I know, sounds like a pain, but has worked well for me.

Trust me, 10 hours is needed. Banshee's being the high revving machines they were designed to be are very unforgiving. Start going full bore on rings that aren't seated and you'll start wearing them out that much faster.
Also, heat cycle the engine a couple times before you go on the first ride. This is the easy part. It lets things expand and contract and basically get friendly with each other. Start her up and let her idle (You may have to burp the throttle with the choke on till it gets warm enough to idle on it's own) till the cylinders get warm to the touch then shut it down and let cool completely down. Do this atleast twice before you start to break in the motor. My 97 still has the stock motor in it and still has fourth gear wheelie power.

CK out this sight, it will take you through the brake in procedures. If you fallow it to the letter you should have a motor that will last you for years...

I run a half tank of gas heat cycling the engine a few time never going over 3/4 throttle. Then I break the bike in the way I am going to drive it..... BALLS OUT!

Make sure the carbs are jetted right for sea level. My buddies son bought a new banshee, and it was so lean that it wouldn't run right.. He's lucky it didn't seize! Better to be a little rich for break in. Plugs are cheaper than pistons!

Go ahead and ride the thing like you stole it. You are gonna need to build the damn thing anyway. After you waste your top end after the first two seasons, take it to Allen Knowles at CT racing and have them do some port and head work for you (or a cool head w/18cc domes). After that get ready to run race gas. Then your Banshee will be a lot more fun. forget the running it easy. Just go have fun. I can't wait to hear the flack on this one.

I run through a heat cycle at home then it is off to the dunes where I take it easy for a tank and a half. About 15 minutes of riding on the flats (no dunes) followed by about 30 minutes of cool off. It sucks, I suggest going to Olds or Comp on the sand highway so at least you have some entertainment while you let your bike cool down. Also bring plenty of ICDB's to pass the time. After that I am done, I just go dune. I try not to hit any long hills or race up the hills the first two trips, after that it is on

I have seen people with the break it in like you ride it philosophy and it has worked fine, for a while

. I have also seen people who do this and the top end lasts forever, I just like to play it safe.
