I have been having issues with my seats since I got them. 1st it was the slider brackets bending. Then it was a tab from the seat frame breaking around the welds (tube actually broke). When the tab broke Beard replaced the frame with no questions asked. Got the seat back and after a few trips noticed I was sitting lower in the seat than before. Looked under it and found the sliders were bent yet again and the 2 metal clips that hold support straps (2 straps right under your ass) were bent to hell and not providing any support. Sent the seat back to Beard, they replaced these straps with a heavy duty version that does not use the metal clips. Of course they sent it back with no heater installed so I had to ship it back.

Yesterday I am poking around and find the frame it broken once again! The tab that is welded to the tube of the frame broke off around the weld. The tube seems pretty thin IMO.

Now I know I am fat (and happy) but I can't be the only wide duner out there.

Anyone else having any of these issues? For what they charge per seat they should be a tad stronger wife.gif

I am confident that Beard will replace the frame again at no charge (except shipping for the 3rd time), but need to stop this from happening again. I was considering asking if they could install a 3rd tab in the middle of the seat frame (between the current 2) for some extra support. Or once I get it back have the tabs gusseted which means pulling the cloth/seat covering most of the way off.

Other suggestions or clever fat jokes that we have not heard before? thefinger.gif

I had alot of problems with my Beards as well... it seamed as if nothing was done on a jig and you cold not swap the two front seats because the tabs were in totally different places. We ended taking the seats apart and gusseting them as well as replacing the tabs. It seams like alot of BS for something so pricey...

You had broken tabs as well?

On both of the fronts... the rear was a bench and we modified it before we installed it to make it stronger for my boys. We doubled the tabs because it was hard mounted. Basically sandwiched the tab one the car with two on the seat frame.

I actually bent my seat frame ( Racecraft) when I lawn darted. Any possibility this started when you , ahem, posed for your classic picture?

Maybe you can get Beard to take the frame to a really good builder in the area icon_wink.gif and beef it up before they recover it...

Ahh, never mind....I hope you solve your problem...

I really don't think it's from the crash as it was a mild roll over.

Beard is sending me a shipping label to cover shipping costs and will look at ways to beef up the tabs or something. If they don't I guess I will.

Just repaired all 5 of my beard super seats. had five new covers made for the seats as well the first set fell apart, beard did warranty them however, I had to take the a shop to have "fitted correctly" to fit the seats, they did have all fice of the orginal covers as well it still was not in the ball park.. If I had to buy new seats i would buy twisted stitch seats. Oh well they are done now.

Well, if you have seat sliders in you car that is not only unsafe but could be a lot of your problem. They definatly dont make your seats and brackets more "stable". Arnt you the same guy who wanted to sue a whell co. because their product wouldnt hold up to your abuse after you showed us how high you could jump and pitures of your car on its lid?

Jettrim................Just got them on my new car and really like them.

Perhaps if you could translate the words that are in bold he could answer your question......... sarcasm.gif
Mike330R
I think the seat sliders do put more leverage on the tabs. I have a friend with PRP's that have been through a few tabs.

No I was not trying to sue a 'whell' co but rather hold them accountable for poor welds. Thats a whole different thread.
Mike330R
Thanks for the suggestions on other brands but I asked if anyone else had issues with seat frames cracking. 259mm.gif

My car has a custom made slider from SCU and its real nice you should check out how Don is doing them now, they are much better than the Original factory slider...... Getter done the season is near.......

Anybody in here that replied with "I have Mastercraft,I have Racecraft,I have Jet trim" drive like Mike does???

I would call Foddrill or Jimco or another HIGH end RACE car builder and ask them what they think.

Mike you put your seats through just as much hell as Race Cars probably.

Since when do seats come with a weight limit??? moof.gif
I sure as hell do not wont anyone that does!
Mike330R
PRP has told a guy we camp with who's seats also broke that he has seen it before with the sliders.
I imagine if they were hard mounted there would be less leverage/stress put on the tabs *shrug*.

I will beef them up if Beard won't.

Beard offers two different sliders (or at least they did a few years back). One is standard, one heavy duty (really beefy). The standard ones probably have a little "slop" that allows them to rock sideways, thus bending the seat tabs and causing the problems you have had (just a theory here, no proof). If you do have the standard ones it might be worth it to upgrade to the heavy duty ones. When I worked for DB.com we used the heavy duty ones and never had a problem.
Mike330R
Thanks. I mentioned i had been using the HD's since my last breakage. They are defiantly stronger!
