OK, I know you have been reading my posts, but I am down to the nitty gritty, last night installed the Alba pipe, K&N Filter, cam mod, and now jetting, did have 45 pilot, 170 main, and #5 in GYTR needle, with 2.5 turns on the mixture screw, that was bad, plug came out black and wet, bike popped, blue flame out the pipe 6-12". Called Alba, they said jets for their kit were 42 pilot, 165 main, and clip in #4 on needle, did that, seemed to run ok, no popping or hesitation, little rough idle, but it never did idle good. now I hear I am too lean, who is running what? and why do people not like the jetting alba comes up with? I really want this bike to be dialed in, but dont know where to turn, any help would be greatly appreciated, should I bump up pilot and main 1 size to a 45 and 168, how many turns on the screw? thanks again, Ian

I feel your pain. I have two 450s and feel that right now there are no concrete answers. Most of the info is on
http://www.yfzcentral.com/ and there are a few posters out there that seem to know what is up. The wildcard in your situation is the Alba pipe. The jetting is dependent on the type of air flow both in and out, so a change in the airbox or a change in the pipe will change the jetting needs. If it was me, I'd stick with the Alba recomended jetting - they have no doubt tested thier pipe on the dyno with different jets. It would do them no good to tell you anything different. If you haven't already, make sure Alba knows you did the cam mod and see if they change thier recomendations at all. I suggest you post on yfzcentral questions about your Alba pipe and jetting - no doubt others are running it also.
Also check out this site for how to's on the 450:
http://www.eskimo.com/~daddog/index.htmI installed the dyna jet kit, even though everyone dumps on them, but it works for me! I will change everything once the dust settles on which pipe is really best. Right now I'm running with the stock pipe, baffle out, stock air filter, lid off, the dyna jet kit, and no cam mod.
To be honest, I have seen moded 450s race against stock, and there sure doesn't seem to be much difference by the time they get to the top of the hill!

Your pipe may not flow very well and therefore require a smaller jet setup. I would stick with what alba has told you. They do have a good rep, and probably set up alot of bikes like yours.

I'm at 4500ft. here in Utah and I have a full HMF pipe installed. I run a #172 main and two richer on the pilot. I have a Pro Flow kit with a K&N filter and no lid. It runs strong with no flat spots anywhere. Just thought I would run this by.

alba wants me to put the 42 pilot and 165 main in, I did and it ran pretty good, I tried the 45 pilot and it seemed to idle really high and the idle screw didnt seem to do anything, so I messed with it for 3 or 4 hours, changed the jetting and finally went back to the 42 and 165, still idled really high, so I think what the hell, it ran fine like this yesterday, I put it all back together, thinking I was going to take it somewhere to fix my mess, then for no reason I checked the throttle cable and it was stretched so it wouldnt go back to idle, after I fixed that, it seemed to run pretty good, but then I noticed the head pipe was orange, and I have heard that by fattening up the idle it should go away, so tonight I am trying the 45 pilot and 168/170 main, and see what it does, by the way what does the air mixture screw do? more air? less air? which way should I turn it to dial it in? right now it is 2.5 turns out. thanks

The pipe shouldn't glow orange like that no matter what people say. It will only glow if you're sitting at idle for awhile. Sorry you're having so much trouble with that jetting. When I first jetted with the alba pipe and specs on jetting it ran fine but I could tell it was missing something. went to 45 pilot 4 clip and 170 main and still ran great but it had that little extra I was missing before. With that cam mod it shouldn't change too much maybe up one on the main and the pilot. This is just where I was with my bike. daddogg's website seems a little rich too me but then again you have to remember he's got porting and hi comp piston in his. At the jetting you said you were at it shouldn't be running the way you were describing it.

I think my main problem was that I had the clip on #5, instead of #4 and it was screwing everything up, last night seemed to be ok, with a 42 and 165, I am going to bump it up to a 45 today, and the 168. worse comes to worse I will bring the 170 jet with me and change it over new years, no that I have had alot of practice I can change jets in about 10 minutes. I am also going to bring a couple plugs with me just in case, thanks again.

If you have the ncqv (yz) needle, then it's the number 3 clip from the flat side.
45 pilot and 165 main+ 2 turns airmix
48 pilot and 170 main is 2 and one half turns. 4th click on the YZ needle.
The NCQV (same as YZ) needle is cliped differently than the stock needle.

Well after spending 4 days in the sand over new years, I came home with a 45 pilot, and 170 main, clip on #4 on the GYTR needle, and the bike seems to run ok, it has an idling problem when I am at the dunes, but here in San Diego it idles fine, ???. Also the head pipe does glow some, which I still dont like, so for shits and giggles I am going to throw in a 48 pilot, and try out a 172 and 175 main, and play with the mixture screw. But I did end up getting my ass handed to me by my 16 yr old brother, (he rides the 450, I ride a raptor), he was also out jumping me, but I can still do better whellies, so at least I have that, when he beats me at everything, I am starting my mid life crisis and buying a suspension car. (Hope he gets better at wheelies soon. lol), anyway I will keep you posted on how things turn out. thanks again, Ian
