After a few years of riding, the liner on the helmuts can get pretty grungy. Taking a tip from a friend of mine I put my helmut into a bath and watched the water turn brown - yuck. Anyone else have a better idea on keeping helmuts clean? Anyone else ever clean their helmuts?

I buy helmets with removable liners now. It makes it so much easier to clean. My old helmet, I just submerged in warm soapy water in the sink. Kept rubbing the liner with my hands till most of the sweat and dust was out, rinsed, and let it dry. I'd do that once every couple months and it wouldn't get real stinky.

Toss the liner in the washer. The liners should come out. Wash em on delicate. Smells like roses now!

Throw your gloves in too. Like new! Make sure you close the velcro.

I just wouldn't dry them in the dryer on hot.

Wash it more than once every two years! icon_wink.gif

Removable liners and cheek pads help make it easier. Washer works good and then let them air dry.

Saw this today when I was looking through my Crf 50 paperwork and the Honda Red Rider magazine...

Helmet Fresh from Pro Honda

"Just apply to a new helmet, or an older one after cleaning the interior with mild soap and water. Helmet Fresh attacks the bacteria and mildew that cause odor, and it's non-toxic, non flammable, non corrosive and environmentally greener. You can even use it for all your riding apparel. 4 ounce bottle $4.99"

No Honda stuff touches my head! I'll use the washing machine.

I knew a guy named Helmut once. I wouldn't want to wash him though. That's kind of gay tongue.gif rolleyes.gif shock.gif

get a fresh smelling bar of soap, like old spice or irish spring, put it into a sheer sock or stocking, and throw it into your helmet when not in use. keeps the helmet smelling fresh. trick of the top riders there.

another tip: dont leave it until it looks like you are gonna have to use the K&N filter cleaner on it.

Try this, it always works!

First, go into the house and get the cleanest, whitest sheet you can find. It needs to be a really nice one. Wad it up into a ball and carefully place it into your smelly, crusty old "helmut."

Next, go and get a couple of gallons of 110 octane racing fuel. The good stuff.

Pour the racing fuel onto the sheet and lite.

If your wife doesn't kill you, you're now free to buy a new helmet. Problem solved.

I'm not hard to miss, just look for the Nissan flags!

Also place a Fabric softner sheet in with your helmet when you store it and don't put it away wet!
