I think you meant "portal"?
I mean a planetary reduction. They make big ones, for heavy offroad machinery, and not so big ones (that end up on monster trucks) but I am looking for a small one.

You can move alot of stress form the transaxle by running a reduction on the wheels with larger tires / snottier motor.

i have seen some with about a 6" aluminum ring gear with steel panets and sun... im not sure what it was off of though and the torque rating might have been alittle low... you might try looking for a set that isnt made nessesarily for a drive hub. you will have to adapt it to a hub but you will probly be able to find one that fits your needs.

What if you mounted them inboard? With an adapter it would be a strong unit(I think).

That would work.. And you can use an offset to control chassis height vs a-arm position..
