Copper saw my post in whine and cheese, and stated that it would be hard to top the 11 hour trip from hell. Well we had a ride about 20 and some odd years ago that beats this one by an hour. We were camping behind Boardmanville, and one of the new guys in the group would'nt shut up about how great Patton Valley was, and it was alot better riding, bigger comp hill, and all that sort of crap. So all the guys got tired of listening to his shiat, so they called his bluff and said lets go right now, so we loaded up just the minimum required, left some of the group behind in Boardmanville to go for one ride to satisfy our curiosity. Well, we end up getting there around 6 in the evening, and load up the 22 buggies, with refreshments and head out. Not even five minutes into the ride, we end up with a popped bead on one of the buggies, get that fixed, and then its a broken heim joint, and then a bent tie-rod, and more popped beads, and stuck cars, and lost cars. This night was starting to look bad real fast. It was a weekend very similar to this past holiday weekend, being extremely cold. The only difference in this run from my 11 hour run new years was that in this run I was the youngest kid out with the group in my mid-teens, so the pops said just grin and bear it boy, its cold for all of us. Remember this run started at 6pm, well, 12 hours later we were rolling back to our makeshift camp in one of the last buggys that didn't break down!

Those dunes were in the worst shape that anybody in the group had ever seen, and there were some real veterans out there on this run, that had started duning in the early 60's @ G. Witches eyes, and ruts, and bushes everywhere.
Out of the 22 cars that went on the run, only ten came back undamaged, @ 6am in the morning, needless to say I think I remember all the old dudes came back to Boardmanville for a drink-fest
Since that run so long ago, everytime I hear someone mention Patton Valley, it will remind me of 2 classic runs now.
And NO, we never made it back to Patton, and dont have the itch to go back anytime soon
