So we got us a 1998 Tropi-CaL 36' motorhome with a 14' slideout but it is ugly as all get out. We scored a smoking deal on it (20k and it included 8 new tires and fresh tags for a year) and we are doing a complete makeover on it. Whole new interior change including new carpet and all window valances and all trim as well as all new upholstrey and cushions and even new custom two sided curtains. dropped it off at Quality upholstrey and RV in riverside for the interior this morning. It will be there for 10 days then it is off to Audio Extreme for a day in San Bernardino for the dash painting. From there it will go to Quality fleet services in Gardena for new body paint. After that it will come home for a few mechanical things and maintnence items like all new fluid and belts and hoses and such as well as hitch reinforcing. Anywho here is some before pics..... here is the dash as it is now and the ugly curtains.
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentthe dash will be going either gray or black it just depends on what it looks like will flow better. The new curtains will be white on one side to reflect the sun and the inside will be gray suede. The tan box for the jacks will go the gray or black as well as the thing around the steering colum. All the tan trim pieces up front will get the same treatment as well. Here is the back half of the interior.
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentThe carpet will be going a grey-black speckle looking stuff. It looks bad azz. The vinyl will be getting changed from the blue-green to a hardwood floor looking stuff. A semi dark stuff that truly looks like real wood. All the window valance stuff will be gray suede on the verticals and black vinyl (fake leather) on the horizontals. The three chairs will be grey suede where you see the gree-blue cloth and the tan pleather will be replaced with you guessed it....black vinyl. The dinette cushions and couch cushions will be gray suede and the outside trim and arm rests in black vinyl. All the ugly gold trim me and wifey are gonna remove and paint gun metal grey or sumthin like that. I know it sounds maybe a little dark or even gothic but it actually will look pretty bad azz. No different than a dark inside toyhauler like the victory lane with "radical" interior. Now moving on to the out side with teal colors and peeling palm trees....
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentThe outside will either go white with mandatory black-silver-gray graphics or just plain silver with maybe some black and charcoal graphics depending on budget at the time. Silver with graphics is my first choice but I kinda have a budget to stay in. I have a total budget of 10k or less and right now I'm at $3900.00 for the interior and $350.00 for the dash paint work and $3500.00 for the outside paint that is only for one solid color. Graphics are an extra $350.00 per color plus $500.00 for clear. I'm figuring a thousand bucks for all my mechanical work (doing it all myself). I'm thinking I can probally get a two extra color graphics job and still be right at or under my self made budget of 10k. Anywho......I hope y'all enjoy the Ocotillo Family gucci crew moho makeover!!! I will be going to all places a couple times to get progress pics and update regulary and oh yeah....finished and ready for camping date is exzactly 30 days from today!!

10k max..... Hoping for a little less.
$3900.00 interior
$3500.00 bodypaint single color
$350.00 full dash paint
$1000.00 guesstimate for mechanical stuff
$1200.00 two color graphics with clear
All that totaled is $9950.00 and I think my mech work will be more like five hundred.... Should be good. All my pricing is written in stone pricing from people who I know aint gonna call me and say "well....uh.....it's more than I thought it......."
All super reputable people that i know do REAL good work. They all know about Glamisdunes.com and know that this thread has been started and that this job going good or bad could have good or bad effects on them. I shopped and searched for good desert going peeps that own these types of companys and made green deals with them all!!

I truly think I will be under because I went thru this whole rig top to bottom for the last two weeks testing every little system and function looking for anything not working perfect and I think i have it figured that close to being right on the money. I did that because i did not wanna have 50k in a 20k moho. This year and model moho is in the traders and such for an average of 40k. 45k on the high and 35k on the low so I figured with my initial purchase price of 20k plus my 10k repair and make over I'm doing well enough. Especially since there is no way on God's green earth could i go buy a big moho with a slide and perfect condintion and the whole exzact colors we want inside and out for anything close to 30k. We should be cool with this thing for a while. It's got the Chevy Vortech and 27k milage with all the goodies like big dual airs and big gen and corian counter tops and such. It's got the big dual door Elite fridge with built in icemaker
and oh yeah..... it holds 130gal fresh and 50 gal grey and 50 gal black

Sweet,
Just double check the wheel bearing, seals and rotors.
I'd also pressure flush the brake system. With age, the system will build up contaminants that will be difficult to hand flush.

We are kinda leaning towards white with some black or charcoal and silver graphics and the whole thing will be clear coated afterwards. Or silver base with some black and charcoal graphics. I think in the begining the silver base will look better but in time the white will last and look better longer. probabally decide monday when we drop it off and look at some pics as exzamples and get the painters opinion on looks and longevity

Ok......got it back from the interior guy yesterday afternoon and brought it home and took it to Audio Extreme for the dash painting this morning. While they were painting the dash and stuff gray we went to Walts RV in fontana and found alot of silver parts to get rid of the gold. Handles, hinges, lights, faucets, towel and toilet paper holder. We took out SOOOOO MUUUUCH GOLD stuff it looked like a Pirates treasure

So anywho.......me and wifey got it home and started changing gold for silver. Here is some pics of the new hardware and the pirates treasure......
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentNow here is some pics of the bathroom and bedroom forward finished interior. The only thing left to do in the kitchen, living front area is change the funky gold light fixture above the dining room table for something silver and cool looking.......

Off to the painters in Gardena in about 2 hours!! I think were gonna go all white for now and make sure there is no unforseen mechanical issues that may require more money than I had planned and we can add graphics anytime according to the painter. Dont wanna run out of MoHo money and then be stressing out because of it. Maybe go use it for a trip or two to see if anything needs attention. One things for sure.......even all white like a big fridge on wheels will look a million times better than the cream and teal with the peeling palm trees!!!!

Ok.....here is an update. It got dropped off for paint this morning in Gardena. It is going plain bright white for now and we will get graphics later once I'm sure about NO mechanical surprises or anything. We are supposed to be able to pick up our freshly painted Moho on Monday. As long as it's done on Monday I think that will put us about a week ahead of scheldue or better!!! I will be going there one time during the paint process to check progress and get pics to update all my loyal Moho makeover followers!!! When I have updated pics I will edit the thread title

All white is the way to go and the least amount of maintenance to keep it looking clean. Interior looks great.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Sep 29 2008, 02:40 PM
It looks awsome!! I would also sugguest all white or a lighter color. Its eiser to keep clean and does not attract heat the way that the darker colcors do. Our motorhome in the warmer months get really hot inside compaired to the lighter color ones.
