i'm new to the dunes and riding. i really am getting into it though. i'm very timid to hills right now. is this uncommon? i have climbed olds, but i wasn't the fastest one. need help or suggestions to ride with the big boys someday. my husband bought me a predator 500. it can kick some ass, i know because it is kicking mine. how can i soften this ride.it kind of bucks up on the back end.

well you can adjust the shocks to your weight. i dont know how they really do it (far as set it up to the weight) but there is usually a nut on the shock and it tightens or loosens to adjust the "rebound".
far as being new to the dunes your braver then most for going up hills. most new duners ive rode with are too timid to go up hills. my bros fiance was almost in tears cuz she had to go ride a bowl and try to ride tot he top. he ended up having to ride her double to the top of the bowl cuz she was too scared. but she is braving it now and doing really good.

I would adjust the rebound on the rear shock and I believe you can on the front with the Predators. My buddy adjusted his wife's banshee for her weight(95 lbs.) and it is great for her. It is a pogo stick for me however(210 lbs.)

Well a good tip is dont overthink when you're going up a big dune, just take a deep breat relax and give it a steady throttle, dont just gas it and slow down at the top my nepthew is 9 years old, and he went as far as he could go up comp at buttercup, I think we agreed on 3/4 way up on a stock lt80, with wider a-arms

I was super scared too when I started. You'll get the hang of it and get braver. It all takes time. It took me a couple of trips to Glamis to make it up Olds so you're doing better than I did!
Its always nice to have a good leader that picks a nice line. You'll get the hang of it. Don't worry.

this is a typical complaint on stock shocks
if you have a rebound adjustment on the rear...open it all the way up. back off your spring pre-load as far as you can front and rear. and set your compresssion adjustments in the middle. ride it a bit...and if you dont bottom the shocks out...u can back off the compression even further. this should help ya somewhat.
the only real fix is to swap to aftermarket shocks! tcsracing.com is what i have on mine...and i can fly over whoops like they arent even there. elka and axis are suposta be better...but you will find the price is MUCH higher too! stay away from works shocks...most people dont seem to think they are worth the investment.
you goin to glamis next weekend? i can help ya out first hand if you are.

i just may take a look at those aftermarket shocks. thanks. unfortunatly, i won't be back to glamis until i fix my husband's trailing arm. (i'm a welder, and he broke his buggy arm)i've already fixed one before, yes a woman's job is never done.anyway thanks for the info.

Hey gal! If you're talking about bucking up going through the whoops, the best thing to do is go faster and sit with your ass just on the seat. Not all your weight, just enough to pat it. Your front tires will glide overthe tops of the whoops and your end will soak.
If you have the cash, go aftermarket.

that's what i have been doing, but the back end seems so stiff, that i thought it was going to bounce me off.

Weldgal, the predator comes with a good set of shock, I think they are fox shocks right. just set the rear shock rebound to soft and you should have no more problems.
Remember when cresting the top of any dune take it at a angle so you can see what is on the other side before going over the top.
It really sucks going striate over the top of a dune just to find out that you have lunched yourself over a razorback and you are now 50 feet in the air with no place to land...

great advice from all of you.i feel its a combination of all the things mentioned.your bike has a good shock on it.it needs to be adjusted for you and your riding.i love that you fix the toys after your husband breaks them.

when i started i was more scared of going down hill than i was going up. up was the easy part. now i hit olds as fast as i can and then some and moved onto 2 wheels from 3. so its just a matter of time.

probably would be a good idea to take some preload off the springs. you can also play with the rebound and compression on the rear till it works for you. if your light weight (which it sounds you are) the stock shocls on the predator are great. they just need some tweakin. my predator i need to put a stiffer spring on my shock for my weight 240+ so i dont bottom it alot.
