I am tired of putting armourall on the tires. If any of you dual sport guys get a weekend going, give me a shout. We are from San Diego and have heard great things about both locales'. David - david@underwood.net (619) 557-0555. 25cheers.gif

Can't wait to get out there... better do it this season... there might not be another! Lots of places to explore out there... I have never been to the mines! A good weekend to go out is when they are doing the rock crawling events... they are fun to watch for a bit! There are a couple sand hills too that are a blast to run around on! All that is the closest to Means Dry Lake which is the east portion of the OHV area and closest to the base!
TheWrenchWench
Oooohhh, we'd be in for this! When?
HappyW/VForce
I love Means Dry lake. I didn't make it out last year.
The sand hill are fun!

well, lets plan a trip...does october 17th work? Where, ocotillo, north side off sr22, or lucerne off bessimer mine road?
Robbie
let me know when.
My stuff is already at Glamis, but I can bring my rzr home in the back of the truck.

lets do Ocotillo. off the s4-22. holly road. it is a dirt road about 6 miles from the 86..straight back to the concrete bathroom area. I'll fly a texas flag of my MH. its a nice area, quiet, and we can ride to the small town/mexican restaurant.....did I spell that right..ahhhhh brain farts......kids, families, and happy drunks only.. no drama or bitch rags allowed.......I only roll one way..love, live, laugh..respect the place and have fun.....ahmen...
big had
let us tally this...lucerene or ocotillo?
I will be armed with the gatekeeper..err, beer fetcher..thats right boys, my wif fetches and dont count(she be a cool one fo sho).and my 11yr son....
speak yer peace mates......
oco-mexican food, cool "grand canyon style cliffs, wide open washes...or lucerne..mines, wide open roads and the famous slash X bar???? either way I am down...
surf and dune
I might be able to do Lucerne.
Sanddoc
Either one is good by me. I'm pretty familiar with Ocotillo but havn't been to Johson Valley or Lucerne!!! That weekend won't work for me though, most others will... Pick another weekend or I'll make the next one yay.gif

I spend a lot of time out at ocotilo wells and surounding areas too. great place to ride. I would like to get out to lucerne or johnson with someone who knows the area just because we haven't been there before. I'm always game for ocotillo though. The first race of the season happens out at plaster city on october 18th, which is right next to ocotillo so, there will probably be a lot of fast traffic that weekend.
wood1
November works better for me as far as a trip much outside of san diego county. I will be out at superstition (ocotillo wells) with a pretty big group over halloween. That's probably a bigg wekend for you glamis riders too.

I have a few 70 mile loops.
When I go out on the bikes we leave from the Castle bar and grill and head to giant rock and on to means to Bessimer and back.
Its fun but a long grind. But we end back up to the castle for lunch and Ice Cold Delicious Beverage's

Sand hill is a short run from Boone rd.
I have been doing the Morongo Valley S& R poker run for years.
Its this weekend.

I'm up for anything. Beerp.gif

Johnson Valley is no where near Ocotillo... you guys jumped to a whole new area! Not sure of our plans for that weekend... but I will see what is going on and get back to you!

I don't give a shiat where we go, I'm just shitting bricks that I'm actually going to take my cream puff to the real hardpack!!!!

I guess my car will be pretty effed up by the time it's all said and done at the dez???

BTW, I kinda prefer lucerne/johnson. It's a lot closer than Octillo...for me at least...

Poll - lucerne or Johnson valley. Poll - date (preferably early part of november). Time to move out of the conceptual stage of planning. I'm dyin' over here.
Sick Dayz
Keep in mind that there is a MDR race in Barstow on November 5th. It might be cool for you guys to start in Lucerne and cruise to Barstow, or vice-versa…

I’ll be racing. Some of you guys ought to give that a try. It’s a blast and there is a class just for us “Duel sporters”. You might need to do a few things to pass tech, but it’s worth it.

Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentI work at a rock plant on Hodge rd off of the I-15 which has a good flat OHV camping area at the entrance to our plant, with a pit type poop room and some big fire rings we put there. The fire rings are worn out crusher liners and are better then a pile of rocks. Now that the cooler season is coming, I'll use one of our loaders and clear off the flat area so there is a rock free place to camp if anyone is interested. Slash X bar is about 7 miles away over the hills. Good times! The camping area is just beyond the plant in the first pic

Alright, I'm gonna suggest a couple dates as soon as the Wifey comes home with the calender/planner.

I'm just about ready to take my car out of the trailer and make some passes up and down my street!!!!

Carlos
I'm down for the 17th or the 24th at Johnson/Lucerne... We'd be in with two quads, a 4 year old on his 50 and the Rhino. NO OW though... if I drive that far I'ma keep going and head to Mamma G!

November will be tight pressed due to the Vets weekend at Glamis, then back for a week at Turkey Day...

fyi, isnt slash x bar out in barstow?
big had
yes it is, and the areas mentioned are ALL out towards Barstow..you can ride from anywhere out there to Barstow, Hodge rd, Razor road, even end up in Baker if you'd like..it is a big desert out there....
TroyKrum
Johnson Valley is pretty far from Barstow!
Sanddoc
Again, either one is cool with me, October 17th won't work and November 11th (Vets) won't work anything else is fine... This is going to be some good times!!! Way to go on the camp spot, Made in USA!!! Glamfox, lookin forward to meeting U 25cheers.gif

Take I-15 north to Hodge rd go east (right) for 2 miles and that is where I took the pictures. We only mine rock products there, nothing exciting. Im out here now, and it looks like the campers are already coming in.

If it's lucerne or johnson, I could probably make the 17th work. Will be at superstition halloween. November and on is open.
TVR
I can't do the 17th have things to do. I'll be gettin my car back from the shop this weekend but wont be out till Halloween, so early November would work for me. I like to stay at Soggy Dry lake off of Bessemer Mine road then I can ride in all directions to see the sights, plus there's a lot of fun and fast race roads right there. I'm the only one in my usual group with a car so I'm stoked to get out there with you guy's.

Just may hit Johnson Valley this weekend. I am planning to go off Boone road and hit the sand!
wood1
I talked to a buddy who was out riding his bike and was at one or the other (Lucerne or Johnson) but not sure which one. He said the riding was more bike appropriate. Which spot does that sound like or, is there plenty of riding for buggies at both?
HappyW/VForce
That would be Lucerne. It is mainly rocky.
Johnson Valley has less rocks, and some sand, a great dry lakebed and lots of whooped out trails.

If you are taking your car I would stick to Means Dry Lake and head into the sand hills and such! I like it better for the Rhino and quad... oddly enough the races happen up at Soggy Dry Lake and Bessermine Road, so Boone Road/Means Dry Lake is usually pretty quiet and if it is busy it is loaded up with rock crawlers and jeeps!
HappyW/VForce
Anyone else going to hit up Johnson Valley this weekend? I will be at Means lake and will have a cold one ready if you present yourself. beer.gif
This is the rig and trailer.....

were going off of camp rock road tomorrow.....where you gonna be? Boone rd? I thought that was 4x4 type road?

If you have never been to Boone Rd/Means Dry Lake, you need to go. There is some large areas of sand and a fun bombcrater lakebed for jumps.
I am trying to get there today before dark, otherwise by 8:00am on Sat.
big had
see you there...nice talking with you....

Sorry we couldn't meet up. Boone Rd. has been graded and roadbase placed. Easy entry with MH and trailer.
Was a great weekend. Didn't get many pics though...

We are going out this weekend - father in law got a brand new '09 Rhino Sport in that fancy red! We will either be at Means Dry Lake in Johnson Valley or Ocotillo... I will fill in when I know!
TroyKrum
Alrighty... we will be off Boone Road in the flats at Means Dry Lake in Johnson Valley this weekend. Only suppose to be 83 degrees there! Looked up Ocotillo Wells and it was going to be 97 degrees out there! Holy cow...

The father in law bought a brand new shiny '09 Rhino Sport in that awesome deep red that needs to get dirty. If you see us out there - stop by and chat a bit!
