I just came across a 86 250r ATC and people are telling me it has a special pipe on it. Can anyone here elaborate?

I am not familiar with the name. It appears you have a hand coned pipe on there. Building an expansion chamber and bending tube, while technical, isn't rocket science and folks with the right tools and experience can build just as good a pipe as the big boys. I'm sorry I can't tell you any more about the pipe or it's builder.

I know in the 80s there was a company called (I think) Selvy's Performance. Or it could have been Selvy's Racing, or some similar name. But it was definitely Selvy's. It was a big name back then, though I don't know much more about them.

Yea that name sounds familiar to me as well. I think Selvy's Performance like KG said.
Big in the early three wheeler racing days.

Selvy's did alot of interesting stuff back in the 80's. I remember destroked 200cc tecate's and 250R's. They were up there as far as being a contender with the other top builders of the time(Duncan,CT,Klemm reaserch, etc..)
I would suspect it is a good pipe, and to the person that said anyone can build a good pipe - that is not true, there is a science to pipe building and few have mastered it. true anyone can slap together a pipe, but few can make a pipe that really runs strong over a wide powerband.

Well, I haven't been to Glamis in damn near 10yrs. My kid is getting into riding now, and has a go kart and a 110 ATC. I bought this because I was having a hard time keeping up with him on the 110. Not to mention my brothers and buddy's all have Banshees.
I am a Trike person thru and thru, So when I found this little gem, I jumped at it. I had posted a few pics on a different forum, and the people over there made a huge deal about it. But they are all from different states.
I really just wanted to see if anybody closer to home has ever heard of this guy, and if it is true that his work is really worth it's weight in gold.
I did ride it in the back yard a bit, was doing 3rd gear donuts. Decided to romp on it, The damn thing brought up the front end so fast, I about crapped my pants. Felt like I was riding a bull. Not that I ever had, but would guess it is something like that. My God! What power!
I had riden 250r's before, and none ever shook me like that. This thing doesn't even compare to my old 350X.
Any who, I really appreciate your guys's input on this, I am planning on going out this year. Maybe you will recognize the pipe at Olds or something. Thank You!
