Ok, So I bought a Base camp radio set up from Matt and Greg at the SSSS and finally got time to start installing it in my trailer. If you guys haven't heard of this it's a radio that you can mount in your car, trailer, motorhome, or I guess home if you you live in the middle of the desert.
I really wanted this so the wife can get a hold of me if something happens while I'm out in the dunes or any kind of emergency while one of us is away from camp. Ya you can always use your cell phone but what happens when your driving around and you got your Rugged Radio Intercom on.......your never going to hear that cell phone.
Anyways, I started this install on my older Toy Hauler trailer and ran into a few problems.
1) I needed a good looking install, Not a under the cabinet install that looks like a truckers CB radio.
The good thing was I had a stock radio in my trailer that had a Tape Player. Yes, I said tape player. So I removed that and bought a CD/MP3/Ipod hook up player off eBAy for $50.00 . I then fabricated a new dash plate for these to mount in and cut open my cabinet a little more for clearence.
2) The speaker was now inside the cabinet.
So I bought a external speaker from RUGGED and mounted it under the cabinet wiht only 1 screw in the middle of the mounting bracket. This way I can swivel it around depending if I'm outside or inside. Also I left all the length on the speaker cable so I can remove the speaker and set it outside the trailer on the table.
3) I had no way of mounting the antenna on top of the trailer. I called Rugged and they don't offer a bracket to make this work. This is the main reason I posted this thread. I could not find any pics on the internet with "Toy Hauler antenna installs" I ended up finding a bracket on eBay for $13.00 that works PERFECT!!. The reason you have to go with a bracket like this is because of the interior ceiling and the roof. There's a 3 to 4" gap that won't allow you to get inside and tighten the bottom of the antenna base. Unless you cut a huge hole on the inside of your ceiling.
So I mounted this bracket and drilled a seperate hole for the coax to feed through and caulked everything up.
I am in the process of installing a A/B switch for some outside speakers so I just set the new dash plate up in the hole for some picturs so you get the idea. That is why theres a gap between the cabinet and the aluminum.
I'll post some more pics when I get done mounting the A/B switch, the Mic handle, and the iPod mount.

And the OEM "TAPE PLAYER" I think it had 7W of power

I'm also installing a built in ONAN 4000 Generator "Micro Quiet", a new side door window frame, a new door latch, out door speakers, and a Fuel Pump station. I'll post up some pics of those upgrades later.
SAND SPAZ - I like that steel hatch !! Looks way clean and Very secure. Let me know if you want to build another one? My plastic one never seals up.
