What's the general rule of thumb on distance or space between the top of your bed rails and the bottom of the trailer?
I want my trailer as low as possible but don't want to hit the top of the bed rails.
Thanks

I alway's set mine up for 8-10 inches. I never had any issues.

For the last 2 years I have only had 5" between the bed and the trailer. I am careful it avoid quick drop offs or rises. Having said that... 8 inches would be nice.

The number I've heard is 10"-12" on the RV websites.

According to the big dent in my bed rail, 8" is not enough.

I adjust my hitch with air (3 1/2 inches of adjustment) and can go as little as 5" clearance without hitting on funny driveways etc. If I had no adjustment I'd feel best with a 6 or 7 inches fixed.

For going off road, you want the most distance possible.
I have 9" between my truck and trailer.

Mine is about 8" and have never had clearance issues.

Minimum rule of thumb IMHO is 6".
