Planning on doing Ocotillo for Thanksgiving for the first time. Have done G in the past but want to try Ocotillo. Is it crowded, good amount of turn-out, or is it pretty dead? Who is going to be out there and where are you camping?
B&B Motorsports
We will be there again this year. Not sure how big our group will be this year yet, not everyone has commited.

As far as the crowd, it hasnt seemed bad the past few years. It's def busy but never too crowded.

We camp off of 22/South Marina Drive.
glamisguyone
We have been to Ocotillo several times but do not know where everything is. Where is 22/ Marina? We are probably gonna dry camp, so we will stay close to the ranger station for the Showers, etc.
How would we get to Superstition from Oco? I would like to take a trip down there one of the days. We have never been down there?

We will be at Superstition for T-day. There a ton of ways to get from oco to super. The easiest I think would be to take split mt. rd to the rr tracks just before Gypsum mine and head east. Once you pass the rr trussel there Are a few well used trails that head over to Superstition. It's about a 30 mile ride one way so be prepared. Hope this helps. And maybe someone else knows of a better way.

just east of juan bautista trail is a huge wash, it runs straight down and not many whoops to deal with.
Bustin-bs
I think we are tossing the idea around as well, we usualy camp on Wolf Well road.

Well be out east of pole line on the 78. Last couple of years it seem to have slowed down. Lot of fun, we have been going out there for the past six years for turkey day.

We follow pole line rd down and then head east before you get to the mountain. It is a nice ride. We leave from county line road and round trip it is about 55 miles for us.

Have been at Ocotillo for t-day for the last 5 years. It is croweded for Ocotillo, but nothing compared to G. We camp off of county line road. just before the san felipe wash. we should have a good group this year. 8-9 trailers. yay.gif yay.gif yay.gif

As far as busy, if you use the roads it is busy, but stick to cuttin the desert and you will have have the desert to yourself.

FYI glamisguyone

S-22 / Marina is the north side, (it will be very crowded there, not much room to spread out) go down to the 78 if you want most sites to be closer. Plus the ranger station (showers / restrooms) are off the 78.

Is it T-Day yet?
surf and dune
We should be out T-Day. We are usually at Pole line rd. I met some friends last year that were over at the 22 and I would never recommend it. Super crowded ghetto camp IMO. Go to the 78 and find yourself some open space.

Any others with cars going out?
B&B Motorsports
Surf and Dune, is it really that much better off the 78? We have been going off the 22 for the last couple years and it hasn't seemed bad. It is def crowded if you dont get back in there far enough. Where we camp you can only see 2 or 3 other camps and are surrounded by the hills to keep you out of the wind. We dont stay right off the 22, we are back in there a couple miles.

We have never been to the south end by the 78 and if its that much better we might need to try it out.
surf and dune
To be honest, I've only been over there once. I think it was Pres. weekend and we took Pole Line Rd from the 78 to meet a bunch of friends. I was amazed how crowded it was, and it seemed like there were a bunch of picnic tables around that people may have used for day trips.? If your a couple miles back then its probably better than what I saw.
If you havn't been to the "other side" you should check it out. Theres so much room you can always find a nice spot thats fairly safe and quiet.

The few times we have gone we have stayed by the ranger station. Where is pole line rd? Also, we will be in our car. The pic is above^^^. Where are you camping exactly? I will try and find you to go on a ride? I would like to take a ride down to Superstition, one of the days we are out there. Have never been but would like to check it out.

Yep were going to be out there from the 26th to the 1. Should be a good trip, angryfire.gif but I’m going to be stuck driving the rhino. Doctor says I can ride my quad yet 25bangin.gif (rupture Achilles tendon). and its going to be another month.

I will be headed out this year to Ocotillo. I have done Glamis the past 10 years. My new wife's family has 1.5 acres of property with water and power, up Split Mountain Rd! Its going to be different driving on trails, and not just pointing in a direction like I do in the sand. beer.gif

Will be at Ocotillo Wells as well Thanksgiving. I think we are camping off of Main Street

We should all try to plan a group ride.I would love a little reef, pumpkin, devil, blow, iron door run or possibly Super to Iron door.Or maybe just a Iron Door run laughing.gif coocoo.gif

We'll be out T-day (havent missed a thanksgiving out there in 10 years). We use to camp off of Cawhia (SP??) but it got to busy, so now we camp off the S-22. We are having a group ride to superstition on Saturday. I have a radio in the car, normally on weatherman or fair channel. If you see me, say Hi!

GARIBALDII
What time Sat?We may try to link up with ya!
