I am looking at a couple of the SCUs out here for sale and want some feedback from you SCU owners as to the pros/cons of each:

1) Don's old car--the red one with the turbo'd honda
--Is the 2d to weak for instance

2)The blue 2006 Big Bro that 3rotortrav has for sale on here

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/rvs/886194864.html -----Does anyone know this car or its history. I have an email into him.

This will be my first car, but I have been duning for some years now and see some pretty interesting deals out there.

Thanks in advance
Dave

There are NO cons to owning an SCU. Wish I could help you with one, but there just isn't one...it's all positive. Personally, I would buy the the turbo honda. Yes a 2d will be fine. Done has them upgraded (nosecone I believe) when he matches them with a turbo honda. Plenty strong.

Thanks Tom
HOGDUNER
sandseeker built the blue one new very well cared for by owners you wont find anything cleaner or better cared for
ONE-A-DAY
Two completely different SCU's and about $20,000 price difference. Both are a solid package, 2d's work great with Hondas, that car has been used once or twice tops, Sandseekers blue one has more hours on it, but nobody is more meticulous about maintenance than SandSeeker.
O Soto Gari
the blue one is duner21 old car.. he owned it for a season, was very meticulous with the car. Traded it in on a new boat. not sure from there, but I don't think it has been duned since.. was in perfect shape when he got rid of it...

2D with honda is fine.. I beat the crap outta mine. if you want to see how that car runs come out on vets and I will take you for a ride in my turbo Honda..
MeterTech
Don builds all his cars the right way. They are set-up correctly right out the door.
Either car will make you happy but are different; it's all in what you're looking for.

Honda power or V8 power is all good as long as it's in a SCU.

My bad, the blue one is not SandSeekers.........how much are they asking for that one? It says it has a carbon fiber body?? Didnt know Don ever did that.
crazicooter
Thanks for all the replies and info.

Walt, I don't know how much that guy is asking for the one on craigslist. I have not heard back from him yet.

For you guys with the V-8s, how are the S4's holding up? I ask because I came real close to buying a Revenge Predator with an LS7 and Fortin last week but backed out at the last minute.

SCU's have very well thought out geometry so they are pretty easy on trans' and cv's. All of the S4's in our group have several seasons on them. Deanasaurus drives his car hard, and he didnt even change the fluid in it and it lasted 3 seasons.

I bet it has carbon fiber looking vinyl lining the inside of the panels. You dont want to buy a car from someone that is clueless.
farmdog

The blue one with the sequential in az is 55K, if you could get it for say..48K and it is in good shape, its a good deal. It is also an 06 so it can be registered in Ca. The blue one in Vegas is blinged out pretty nice but you can get a new one built for arount the same price. The red one is not ca legal so even if you live out of state this may effect resale. The thing I would be most concerned with on the older ones is that a few of his early "Big Brothers" have a REALLY long wheel base so check it out. I would say personally if I was looking in the price range of the one in Vegas, I would go new. beer.gif

You will not be dissapointed in an SCU. They look great and perform amazing!

Thanks for all of the input. Duner21's old car(the blue one in AZ) is actually in Colorado at the moment and is coming back to Tucson. The just put a new S4 tranny in because they blew up the other one according to the brother in law that is trying to help sell it. I haven't heard what exactly caused the tranny to blow up, but have a call and email into him to find out. They have sent a boat load of pics and that car looks real clean.

Are there any specific things I need to be looking for on SCUs when looking at used?
SAND SEEKER
Travis's car was my car, I believe he took it out once,,,,,, It is bad Azz and in perfect shape, You want one today I would buy it, if you want to build one call Don, but it..... and equal car will cost a bit more than this is for sale for...Good Luck on your purchase! You are making a smart move going with a SCU...... 25cheers.gif

Not as far as the chassis or suspension are concerned. The "SCU" part of the car will be stout and rock solid. It's the motor and trans (non-SCU) parts that could be the weakness.
MeterTech
Don uses really good parts on all his cars; no short cuts. His geometry on his cars is second to none so CV's, axle's, suspension, steering etc. hold up really well.
Now buying used has it's own set of issue's on whether or not the previous owner kept up on normal maintenance and prevenative maintenance needed on all cars no matter who the builder is.

Now with that said; SandSeekers old car that is for sale from Travis in Las Vegas has some history that can be backed up by alot of GD.com members so that can give you a little peace of mind about buying his old car.

Or

Go see Don and build it your way!!!!!!

I would go new or SandSeekers old car. SandSeeker is a psycho on cleaning and maintenance, he probably has a log book of the dates and times he waxed it, brand of waxed used, direction he rubbed the wax off, etc. Numerous people can vouch for that car and its former owners care of it. Anything that sounds sketchy with a used buggy usually is.
O Soto Gari
that is wierd with the trans issue in the blue one, duner21's old car.. He broke that tranny when he had it also. He only owned the car for a season. That would mean in about 3 years with limited use that tranny broke 2 times dunno.gif

D21 drives like a chick and breaks a tranny with limited use, Deanasaurus drives like a nutjob practically every weekend for three years and doesnt even check or change the trans oil and his lasts three years. Go figure.
crazicooter
I put a call into Duner21 and got nothing but praises about the SCU, but the tranny has been an issue for sure. I also put a call into Don yay.gif and I am waiting on his return call.

Thanks for all the input.

thefinger.gif Your old funco never went fast except when i drove it! Anyways that car does NOT have a carbon fiber body it is aluminum panels with a carbon fiber looking vinyl on the inside! I loved my SCU great car and i will be getting another one someday. I hated that trans i had 2 issues with it. I really think that trans was jinxed from the get go lol. My 2d in my sandlimo went 2 hard seasons and never had a problem go figure. Anyway SCU is the only way to go it should be number 1 on everybody's list!!!!!!!!
