Im a tightwad dont have enough cash to blow on a new bike so i have been thinking about putting together a ebay quad... what would one reccomend... it would be for me a big dumb white guy and my lady..... preferably 4 stroke.. and elec start...

I was thinking.... 400ex w/ xr650 motor
or a craptor... any other suggestions are welcome... i know the 650 motor doesnt have elec start but im willing to sacrifice for that combo if ya know what i mean...

and if anyone has any used quad parts they would like to part with let me know...

how about a 250R based CRF450...those quads are sick

i havent ridden a 250r yet... dunno how the suspension is... i have ridden a 400ex and with the proper suspension they are pretty nice... same for a craptor... what i would really want... is a z400 with a larger motor... but those parts are hard to find on e-bay... so thats why i was looking at honda or yamaha... craptors come a dime a dozen on e-bay... same with the 400ex's...

buy a honda frame w/ a suzuki motor and banshee plastics.

maybe you can put those lights i got you on them...oh wait im still tryin to get them. i havent forgot about ya!! my cousin has been actin like an a--hole and not callin me back. i havent talk to him since before new years.

Instead of the xr motor go with the xl motor then you can get electric start. Also the the 250r is a much better starting point I think the the 400ex. The raptor would be the cheapest. All of the little parts of a conversion can get expensive. Just my opinion.

Don't rule out the KLR or DR650 engines if you have your heart set on a big thumper with e start. They have been around awhile and both have excellent aftermarket options if you wanna go faster.

This is not a project for the faint of heart though. It takes alot of work. You'd be better off money and time wise to buy a used quad instead of building one.

get a KTM 520 motor they are beasts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the prob with the big estart thumpers is they are water cooled... the 650r is air cooled... which means i wouldnt have to find a spot to mount a flippin radiator... The craptor was a choice but i didnt wanna deal with the dual carb issue when it comes time to get her jetted... so i figured the honda 400ex frame with the 650 motor... extended swingarm and extended a-arms would be one of the more plush ways to go...

Rivermobster... im fat... pushin 290.. bout 5'11'' primary usage... something to ride at night with better lights than my bike... something with some power cuz my fat arse is riding it... and the third reason is for the lady... she doesnt have a bike yet and if she doesnt get to intrested in riding quads it will be mine so i kinda wanna build it for her but in case she dont like it, its suitable for me as well...
