Sorry if this is a dumb question:dunno:, but, when did electric starters become standard on the quads? The warriors, banshees, raptors, these type.

Thanks in advance.
Jus trying to learn about these for future purchase.

banshee has always been kick. quads have always been more for the recreational rider, plus with fuel injection and electronic advances, why not? a battery and starter may add 10 lbs max. very few quads have a kick start. i actually added kick start as a backup to mine. the 450 sport quads are the only ones you may see now with a kickstart. honda is the only one factory you can get it from.

^^^ What he said. Pretty much all the 4-stroke quads are electric start once you get above 125cc (kids quads). Now reverse... that's another story. Warriors and Raptors have always had it, Banshees never did. None of the 450-class quads do, except the new Kawi.

What kind of riding experience do you have, and what kind of riding are you looking to do (dunes, trails, etc)?

BTW there are no dumb questions... ask away, lots of peeps on here to help a guy out. thumb.gif

ALL 450 sport class machines have electric start, honda is the only one to offer kick like was mentioned above.

a good friend of mine switched his honda to a kick from electric. without the battery, starter and all the wiring(on a race bike, just enough to make it run) was worth much more than ten pounds too, closer to 20. beer.gif

Almost 0 exp, got stuck w/ a 250 kawi that has a kick start only that i can't get running, bad story there, so i am looking to get something in the future that has elec. Gotta go towards a 450 anyway, 250 is a lil small for a fat guy. Dont know what kinda riding, would like to putt around local hills, trails, but also have option to do dunes too. Thinking about a banshee.
Want to eventually make trips to mother G, but without work, ride, or truck its kinda hard. Also have 2 girls that I need to make sure they have all they need first, toys second, ya know.

Im guessing what you have there is a Kawasaki Mojave 250. We have one in camp, nice bike. Reliable and sturdy. Only downside I see is that wierd forward kickstarter. Fwiw im not a small guy at 240 lbs and that Mojave carried me all over the dunes just fine. True you wont likely be climbing Patton with it but it will do for 95% of the stuff out there.

have u thought about the raptor 700. imo it would be great for you. the 450s dont really like to putt around. they want to be reved out. the raptor is kinda best of both worlds. can putt around no problem and then when it comes time to haul butt it can do that also.

if money is tight and you want electric start, there are PLENTY Honda 400Ex's out there. they will go anywhere and do anything! not be first up a hill but it will get you up the hill. I honestly think they are one of the best quads ever built. if you want to upgrade suspension, plastics, misc stuff its all out there. thats what Id recommend to ya. the 450+ cc quads are nice but not everyone can afford. I bought mine in August 2006 and I have about $600 bucks left to pay. then again I have spent just as much on aftermarket parts and an engine rebuild to purchase the quad twice now hence my signature 06' yfz450 with lots of money dumped into it.
