Just read on RDC that it burned to the ground sometime in the last two days. I used to go there for Sunday morning hangover breakfast all the time. Really a bummer!!

We are sorry to report that approximately 3:00 a.m.
Friday morning, November 14,
My Desert Rose restaurant in Ocotillo Wells
caught fire and was destroyed.

This is a statement released by the Pena Family:

My Desert Rose in Ocotillo Wells
closed November 14, 2008 due to a fire
that destroyed the restaurant.

The Owners of My Desert Rose and
their staff would like to wholeheartedly
thank all Locals, Off Roaders, Pilots
and Customers for all their business and
support over the past 9 years.

We hope that you will continue to support
us by visiting and supporting our
vendors located at the
My Desert Rose property.

They will all be open at this time
of reconstruction and hope to
accommodate all of your needs as
much needs as possible.

That sucks. We have been there a few times as well.

Sounds like they plan to rebuild though. thumb.gif

Big time bummer, hopefully all is ok with the family and the rebuild happens. It was hard to beat their breakfast.

I was looking forward to cruising the rhino over with the family over T-day week.

We were out there this weekend, lots of memories in that place. That was a big breakfast tradition for my son and I, we would always do a father son ride there on Sunday morning. There was still smoke in the air on Friday around 12 noon when we were pulling in. It's a sad thing to hear and see. Hopeufully there will be a rebuild someday.
Sanddoc
sorry to hear the news... The best of luck on the rebuild!
bigdan
I haven't been there in a few years, but that really sucks........... angryfire.gif

How sad.
When my family first started going to the desert in 1964 (not a typo) we stayed in the little rooms they rented in back of the store there. It was called Ray and Edie's after the owners. They would go to the Salton Sea and bring back fresh fish and have a big fish fry on the weekends. Spent many an hour there.

Yes, so true, I used to drive my buggy into the 76 gas pumps at the ripe old age of thirteen. Filler up. I used to fly in there powersliding all the way. The owners never said anything to me, but they did talk to my dad.

The powerslides came to a stop and I was told to make a personal apogee to the owners. I was scared to death, they were so cool about the whole thing. A lesson that lives with me to this day. tongue.gif

Back in the day.

P.S. The powerslides continued, big time, just out were they belonged. drummer.gif

We drove by last week. It looked like they were rebuilding.
