We are a camping at Ogilby for Thanksgiving and I was wondering what is the best way to get over to Gordon's Well from there? Is it through Patton Valley and down Sand Highway or is it possible to head south and follow the freeway to test hill and then on to Gordons Well? I will be in a sandcar but do not want to venture out into the dunes alone but am wanting to meet up with some friends at Gordons Well.

I have never been to Olgiby, but I have been to Gordons more times that I can count. I think you can just cruise straight south toward the 8, then hang a right and follow the trails to Test, then to the flats. Last time I went to Phoenix I went via the 8 and I saw trails that went pretty much all the way to Olgiby Rd.

It depends if you are camping at the North or South Tower. If at South Tower, do what Ian said, just keep a eye out for the construction around the canal. If at the North Tower, you are pretty much directly East of Patton Valley and can do as you said by going through the Patton and go South on Sand Hwy.

Safest bet would probably be through Patton Valley, alot of construction going by the canal

Justr remember if your comming back at night the opening to Patton Valley on the west side of the dunes is easy to miss.

We had a small group go out for a night ride to Patton from Gordon's over halloween weekend. They missed the turn to Patton and were almost at Keyhole before they accepted that "yeah" they really did miss it

My escapade was on the return trip to the tower.................... Did you know that there is a point that the canal is so far from sand highway a banshee cannot make it there on reserve

We camp at Olgiby toward the south. The canal road is not too bad. Take your time if you go that way. Definately faster (unless you are by the cell tower), if so, go through patton.

thanks for all the advice. I think we are going to Gordon's Well after all. We will probably take a ride over to Ogilby for future reference.

If you do take the sandhiway on by the canal watch out.... Those dosers can move a lot of dirt fast. We went on a quick ride and when we were heading back to camp the whole road was GONE....
