Is there really a difference, besides price, between the two??
Are wheel spacers really safe to use??
SHOCKER
Jan 24 2004, 08:12 PM
Wheel spacers for the front put more tension on the tierods so they are most likely to bend, and wheelspacers for the rear are ok but again alot more leverage on the axle and it can bend, I got +2 a-arms from burgard for $400, but if ya have the money go with the a-arms and extended axle

If ya do big jumping with the rear spacers on it could bend the axle, the wheelspacers are great, if ya do get the spacers dont get the cheapy bolt ones like on ebay go with dura blue or rad, but if ya have the money go with the a-arms and axle

NEVER use wheel spacers of anykind ANYWHERE!!! Well...unless you WANT to bend everything on your quad!!! Not to mention if you put em on the front...youll probably break your wrists as well the first time your wheel runs into sumpthin unexpected. Save your money...get an axle from Lonestar. There are so many options for the front...i wont even go there!!! A good set of shocks will make all the difference MOST people will need. But stay away from spacers at all costs!

Bad Habit
Jan 25 2004, 07:38 PM
Wheel spacers on the front of a quad are a bad idea all the way around.
1) They put a tremendous amount of added stress on the upper a-arm balljoints which can and will cause them to fail prematurely or even break.
2) They also put additional stress on the hub and hub shaft, which could lead to breakage.
3) They radically throw off the steering geometry. Alot of engineering was done to get the optimal inclination angle on the spindles to give the best handling. Don't mess with this. In an ideal setup, when you turn the handle bars, the wheels should pivot on the center of the tire where it contacts the ground. When you offset the wheel centerline from the inclination angle, the wheel will slide along a radius on the ground, not pivot. This is refered to as increasing the "scrub".
4) The front wheels will have more leverage than the your arms on the handle bars. When you encounter objects on the ground, the object will try to turn the wheel instead of making the suspension do it's job. The result will be a feeling of a harsher ride, because the wheels are flopping all over instead of using the suspension in it's intended way.
Spacers on the back end are not so bad. Although, they do put additonal stress on the hubs and spline end (which is usually the weak spot on an axle). If you're not getting big air, they will probably be fine. But be careful about extending your back end wider than the front. When you do this, it give a three wheeler affect and makes the front end roll more when cornering at speeds. You always want your front end to be as wide or slightly wider than your back end.
Hope this helps.

Not much more to say, I think it has all been said, but if ya go with arms up front and spacers in the back, make sure you get good arms, ask about what arms to get, and make sure the rear end isnt wider than the front end because then it will handle like a 3-wheeler
