Laurie, as all have said before, YOU are a HERO!
Michael and I keep talking about the incident. After I spoke with you, it's been all I can think about. PLEASE keep your fellow glamisdunes.com family posted on Linda and her husband's status.
Many, many thoughts and prayers are going out for them to recovery and in thanksgiving for you being there at that moment.
You are such a blessing to have as a friend. As WildBill said, "I am honored..."

Wow, Way to go Laurie !! You truly are a Hero!
Sorry to hear that this happened , a traumatic experience for all involved no matter what level of training you have.
My prayers are with Linda and her husband for what is going to be a long road to recovery.
I am definitely going to hook my gas sensor back up, even if it does go off sometimes for no reason.

About 5 minutes later Laurie yelled at someone to call 911 again and to give her the phone. The dispatcher connected her with the Brawley fire department who were in route along with BLM medics. She told the fire department the woman's vitals and that it was apparent that the woman's lungs were burned from breathing in the flames and that her lungs were failing, her blood oxygen level was dropping. If she had to wait for the police and fire department to arrive before making a decision about Lifeflight it might be too late. The woman needed to be intubated or she was going to die. The fire department agreed with Laurie and dispatched the helicopter before any authorities had arrived on scene, which allowed the helicopter to arrive much earlier than what normally occurs when the first on scene responders make the decision to call for a chopper.
The helicopter landed and the flight nurses rushed her inside the chopper. They stayed on scene to put her under anesthesia and intubated her before lifting off.
The BLM supervisor on scene came up to us after the chopper was gone and said thank you for saving the womans life. If the helicopter had arrived 10 minutes later her airway would have closed from the swelling of her burnt lungs.
**
It"s good to know that even the FIRE DEPT AND EMS could tell that they were DEALING with a PRO that was on the sene ! I think what she did was GREAT !!! What she did was above and beyond what the normal person could have done ....

Thank God your wife was there for this family Walt. Laurie is definitely a hero, and even more of one for not realizing that what she did was beyond the capabilities of 99.9% of the people out there. Sure, it's her job, but she didn't have to help, she did it because she is a hero.
Prayers go out for the family.

I noticed in the picture of the trailer that there were two human tribe stickers on the ramp door. Was this couple the one who own Human Tribe? Pipe and I have had several long conversations with them over the last few years, and they are genuinely the nicest people you could ever meet. Hoping it wasn't them, and if it was then I am hoping that everything works out for them.

This was my third T-Day weekend spent with Walt, Laurie and crew in the washes. Always good times with good, fun, down to earth people. Friday morning confirmed the quality of people I can call friends.
I felt the concussion of the explosion in my trailer that was about 150 feet away. My wife and I thought a car crashed into us. I ran out to see what happened and saw things that will stay with me forever especially the blood curdling screams. I wanted to help but had no clue what to do and I was afraid to touch the woman as I did not want to make her condition worse.
It seemed as though everyone around didn't know what to do except call 911, but Laurie was right there to aid and calm the situation. Her work was not done even after the life flight helicopters had taken off. Laurie and my wife took off on foot into the dunes looking for the missing Jack Russel Terrier. The two women are such dog lovers that they did not consider their own safety walking in the dunes with quads, bikes and cars whizzing by. The "hero among us" quote comes to mind. Linda and her husband were extremely fortunate to have Laurie next door.
Our well wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thank the good Lord above that Laurie was there and was able to administer and organize the extremly important first medical evaluations and care for this woman!
My prayers go out to this family and the dog too! I hope the husband will be fine soon and able to join his wife and be by her side as she fights to survive!
I also hope that someone finds the dog and is able to get it some care as well and reunite it with it's family!
Big hugs to everyone who was able to help out Friday morning and afterwards as well.

Talk about the right person being in the right place at the right time. Laurie’s training and experience clearly saved this person’s life. What she was able to do goes way beyond what a basic first aid class will teach you. But what makes her a hero is her ability to rush in, without hesitation, to a totally insane situation, take control of it, do what she needed to do while directing others to accomplish what needed to be done and have a successful outcome.
DOTH for sure

TNT - Good to hear your wife was able to assist the couple. The scene was definently chaotic.
I was a couple of camps over from the explosion. Walked over and took a few pics of the scene. These are a few pics of the copters as they came in and left.
Its great that equipment like this is available when minutes make the difference between life and death.

Some answers..........
The fire department investigators did come back out later in the day to determine what failed but I did not find out what they learned.
I never mentioned the husbands name, Linda and Mike Oliveras, out of Fontana. Long time duners, long time Wash 12 folks. Linda and her husband were not part of HumanTribe clothing, they bought the trailer from the HumanTribe people.
Laurie will be touching base with the family tomorrow for an update on their conditions and I will post it as soon as I get it.

Walt I saw you coming off the freeway at Weir and making a right turn onto Santa Ana Cyn saturday night and I said to Michele hay there is Walt I wonder how their trip was???????
I guess now I know how your trip went...........Amazing! In the fact that Laurie was there to save that woman. I would hate to think what could of happend to our fellow duners had someone like Laurie not been there to not only do what they are trained to do but what they are willing to do no matter what the situation faces them.
Here is a quote that comes to mind:

When you are a nurse and work in Medical Urgent situations you become the clear level one in these situations. Im proud of you Laurie.
I also had to put my skills to use this weekend when a truck out of nowhere hit the wall on the 22frwy. I was first on the scene. Why am I telling you this because we all go to the dunes and not all of you work in medical like Laurie and I do. Yes Cosmetic we have urgent care too, burns and fainting and cancers, All sick fainting and worse.
But this what Ive been pushing CPR and First Aid for, so all those screamers would go into action more clearly and those first valuable moments would have been put to better use.
I have some of my CPR DVD's Thanks to the donation of DONE, but need my equipment and I really hope to reach all the duning community. There is so many incidents out there these days I just cant stand that there was only one clear head (Laurie) within two camps.
Please if you dont take it with me take CPR and First Aid somewhere.

With all of the selfish acts posted about it is truly refreshing to see an act of true selflessness.. She not only saved a life but I imagined she saved many of the friends in camp from some sort of guilt due to not knowing what to do (I wouldn't have either). I hope and pray that none of us have to experience such a life and death situation in the dunes of anywhere for that matter, but it is reassuring to know that people like MRSTNT are around and willing to act. Thank you for your actions.
