What do you guys do to keep your rig from getting stolen? I'm running an alarm on both the moho and the trailer and an ignition immobilizer. I was thinking of hiding a kill switch somewhere as well. I'm thinking the only way this thing could get boosted would be with a real long flat deck. Am i doing enough? Too much?

No man, we're cool up here. Every Christmas we take a trip somewhere to go riding. This year we are doing Glamis, Dumont, Sand Mountain, and maybe Little Sahara on the way home if time permits. I don't care so much about getting broken into and having the tv or stereo stolen. I'm real worried that someone will boost the entire rig while we are at knott's berry farm or Universal Studios. Outta town plates towing a bread box full of goodies...we've been fiddled with before, but never lost anything. That would be a vacation killer...

Do you have leveling jacks? If you do, put them down.

My original anti-theft device plan was to mount 2 switches on the dash. The first one is labeled FUEL/IGNITION ON. When the switch is flipped it activates an air powered cylinder that shoots a medium sized projectile into the groin of the person trying to steal the RV. In testing we have calibrated it to be equivalent to being sacked by Mike Tyson. Not the over the hill ear biting Mike Tyson though...

After the perp regains some of his senses, he would then logically flip the switch marked ENGINE START. This would activate 2 rear facing 50watt HID spot beams that I have hidden inside the instrument cluster. The thief would immediately raised his hands to cover his eyes and scream out " aaaahhh, i'm freekin blind" which would activate a second air powered cylinder similar to a pellet gun. This would shoot 2 Viagra pills right into the back of the thieves mouth.

Now I'm thinking it would be pretty easy for the fuzz to find this guy. Just look for the half blinded guy stumbling around, shielding his eyes from the light with one hand, with the other hand holding a woody that won't go away for 8 hours.

My buddy puts his electric levelers down when he parks at Disneyland. He figures most perps won't know how to raise them and the rig can't be moved.

My levelers automatically retract if I put the RV in drive when motor is running. It beeps at me until the levelers are all the way up. But your have a point, if a thief were to see the levelers down it would be a deterrent.

Frankly I've never heard of an RV getting stolen, but I was paranoid with my first rig. I painted big letters on the top of the roof that said "TOM". So if it got stolen it would be easily identified from the air. You might want to put a "Beware of Dog" sticker on the door, as well as another sticker that says "Video Alarm Equipped". Always keep the curtains pulled when parked so nobody can peek inside. You can also leave a battery powered radio playing inside, they last for hours on D cells.

Lastly, they make vehicle tracking devices you can buy for a few hundred dollars that let you track via internet connection in real time, as the vehicle moves. It transmits it's GPS location via cell towers to a website which allows you to track it. Some devices let you receive the GPS locations via SMS text messaging. There is usually a monthly fee for the real time communications.

Lots of coverage on your insurance!!!! If someone wants your stuff that bad - they will find a way to take it!! Cover your toys and rigs with as much coverage as you can afford, do whatever you can to secure them but know that if someone else takes em - your covered.... New stuff always takes the sting away from old stuff....

If you want a safe space to store your rig for a couple of days, I am in Lakewood, Ca, I will have to apply for permits, but would never mind helping a fellow duner....

Oh, and boy seems kinda paranoid. I think locking it is good enough?
I did hear in San Diego a lot of stuff gets boosted to take accross the border?
Be carefull on the kill switches, if one goes out you could be crap out of luck...

If you are concerned about it I would locate the fuel soilend wire (diesel) or ignition wire (gas) and the trigger wire for the starter and place a remote mounted switch(s) that you can turn them off when you fell the need. The starter trigger wire can be easily found in most cases already in the neutral safety switch. Don't buy some cheap chinese switches get some good ones. You should be able to get them for $20-30 apeice. You can mount one in an abscure place and then mount the other somewhere else. Your odds for someone boosting it would be very, very low.

I would recommend the same thing for all your toys its real simple and theives are looking for the easy prey, they will just move on to the next one.

I have a pusher that is INS. for twice as much as it is worth, so I leave the Keys in it, with a cold adult drink and a Sand Sport mag in it, hoping some one will take it for a raod trip.

Peeps dont steel mohos, they are not worth anyhing for resale or drugs. Id be more worried about the stashed cash inside.

L.A. is not that bad just stay away from compton. No problem at Disney at all.
