I just bought an 2003 Raptor and took it out for the first time yesterday to Glamis. The bike has a pipe & filter and is way under powered. I spoke with CT and Allen said that his 680 kit puts out about 60 hp. He also said that if you build it any stronger then that it isn't reliable and be prepared to replace parts regularly. I'm looking for around 70 hp and the reliability that my 250r had.

Any suggestions? I'm looking for other builders, in the past I have gone to CT but I think I will try someone else this time.
SHOCKER
What do you mean under powered? What size paddles are on it? what pipes? what filter?
RaptorRick
Underpowered? Something sounds goofy? I have an 02 from Alba & have an FMF pipe, K&N, higher comp. piston, cam, mild port & re-geared. Very happy with the power & I'm 6'4" 230. I can beat most others up the hill & it runs really well. Coming from a 250R, you shouldn't be complaining about the power, unless you had that thing on KILL? Is it a used bike? Maybe you got a lemon?

trade it in for a YZF 450 icon_cool.gif

something is wrong, I have an '03 raptor, alba pipe, k&n filter, +2 a-arms, +4 swingarm, down one tooth in the front sprocket, +4 rear axel, and I still cant keep the front end on the ground, I am 6' 240lbs. did you take the choke off? check the govener screw or something else is wrong
red rider
Well my 250r was really a CT 350 powervalve with about 60 to 65 hp. The bike in 3rd & 4th would wheelie with the twist of the throttle. I'm 6'3'' 250 lbs getting lazy (older) and didn't like how low the 250 sat and kick starting it after a long weekend of riding wasn't the most fun thing to do.

Back to what I have now. It's an 03 that I bought from a friend. He sold it because he broke his back. It maybe has 20 hours on it. The filter is a K & N with no lid the pipe is a Wicked pipe. I bought the bike with everything on it for $5600. At the moment I thought it was a great deal since it also had brand new JD +2 a-arms. I’m starting to second guess my decision.

Being a two-stroke guy I'm not sure where to start. I have no problem putting $1k into the motor if it's going to give me the power that I had with my 350. Personally I think the problem might be with the pipe or the jetting. I just had my first ride and haven't had a chance to check the jetting or call Wicked for the hp specs on the pipe.

Anyone else have this pipe?
SHOCKER
Well thats a big jump from that CT 350 to a piped and jetted raptor, one the 2-stroke has a different power band, and its got alot of power, and the raptor is probably just under maybe 40 ponys
SHOCKER
What pipe does it have?
rivermobster
yeah...i agree with shocker...thats a big change...and your tryin to compare apples with oranges...the raptor will never come close to what u had with your honda. find someone with the YZF and see what u think about that. if its raw power u want...i think that might be closer to what u need.
Screamin Ian
I agree about the YFZ, that bike is a monster waiting and wanting to be unleashed, once I threw a pipe, filter, jets, and changed the cam timing, that thing has crazy grunt, still 4 stroke type powerband, but closer to a 2 stroke, I like the ride of my raptor, but if I was a couple years younger, I would have to take the YFZ away from my bro, I bought that bike for him, and he hasnt stopped thanking me in months, after all, he does kick my arse when we ride, at least I can do wheelies better than he can,..lol
BaNsHeE350
call Sparks Racing....and tell him you want lots of power and he will hook you up with it

It is sad to see that you didn't get one reasonable answer. Sparks cannot touch your motor for a year, so forget that. Your Raptor can be readily built to spank your powervalved CT250. First of all as great as glamisdunes is there isn't much in the way of expertise here for 4-stroke performance.

We have a number of very fast Raptors in our group of riders and for a $1000 budget you can get a very quick Raptor, albeit at the cost of a mixture of pump gas and race fuel. Your formula is as follows. 1. 12:1 piston. 2. Hot Cams Stage 2 Cam. 3. Kibblewhite valve springs. 3. Rejet 4. Air Intake. 5. Head Porting. The person you want to talk to is Mark over at billetbikeworks www.billetbikeworks.com He can provide you with a number of options up to any level you like. With those mods you will need a new swingarm though icon_smile.gif

Tell him KingRaptor sent you.

now mark...do u really think that will keep up with a slightly modded YZF450??? Rob Taylor (you know from your races) owns both of those bikes! (raptor and YZF) I'm thinkn your formula raptor would get beat by his 450...and he spent a lot less than 1k!!! icon_cool.gif

you should be going plenty fast for most riders with that set up.i wonder about your jetting not being dialed in correctly.might be too rich and not winding out enough.dropping the front sprocket 1 tooth will help getting some rpms on the hills.check the compression if its good.i bet it s your jetting.

Well, everyone I have spoken too all agree about one thing, going from a CT 350pv to a Raptor is like comparing apples to oranges. Several people have said it will cost over $3k to make the raptor put out 70hp and I strongly believe that's what it will take for a built raptor to compare to my CT bike.

Final decision is the Raptor is up for sale and I'm back on the market for another CT 350pv bike.

Thanks everybody for your help and may God help those of you who have Raptors. I believe there is nothing on earth that can compare to the type of power my Honda had.

$600 for an nitrous works kit. My cousin has it on his raptor and can't keep the front end down when he hits the squeeze. Works good.

I keep sayin' that you Raptor guys need to go with the 1000 kit like I am... icon_disturbed.gif wacko.gif ph34r.gif
