Sad that it takes a tragedy for it to happen, but none the less, this whole trailer explosion thing has me thinking.

In my Warrior I have two detectors. One I was told is LP and the other is Carbon Monoxide. Which is which? One is mounted close to the ceiling above the cabinets and the other on the floor next to the door. The one on the floor also beep when the battery is low. The one above the cabinet is disconnected, because it would go off on hot days when the trailer was new (thinking it has to do with glues from a new trailer), and it would go off what seems like all the frickin time.

Second, in my model, inside the breaker compartment, there is a box with what looks like a phone wire plugged into it. On the walk through, I was told it was something to do with charging, but for the life of me, don't remember what the details were.

Help me out guys

The box that you talk about sounds like the converter. The "phone cord" plug is for quick charging your batteries. Iota(manuf) designed that unit so that customers like yourself that may use the trailer for "dry camping" use can charge the batteries faster then the standard charge. That way you don't have to run the generator as long. I wouldn't keep the plug in all the time if you are doing any of the two items; running your gen for long periods or having your shore cord plugged in all the time. I have heard of people "burning up" their batteries doing this from a over charging. Just my thought........

Here is the link to the website to read up on it =)

The detector up near the ceiling is a smoke detector, the one near the floor is the propane detector. If the propane detector is going off, get out, and don't light anything or turn anything on or off. Then close the valves on the propane bottles.

Correct sir...

As well as the other post about the IOTA converter... Speaking of which.. I have an extra Charge Wizard if you want it Taco.. It does not give you the FAST charge rate but does turn your Converter into a float/maint. charger and "Should" not kill your batteries.

The one on the floor is most likely a CO (corbon monoxide) detector. I don't know if it would detect propane.

Smoke really? I have a regular smoke detector on the ceiling. I was thinkin' it was Carbon Monoxide...do I not have one then?

Ooops, I think you and sanddune are right, it might be a carbon monoxide detector.

I think my Warrior has two detectors mounted down near floor level (cant remember off the top of my head; assuming all Warriors are probably the same in this regard) so my guess would be CO and LP gas. I never looked into those but I sent my wife an email asking her to check them after this weekends incident int he dunes.

the sensor on the wall up high is the c.o detector.and the one down low is the l.p detector.also the 9v battery sensor on the ceiling is the smoke detector.ok now for the difficult part if the detector is beeping once every few seconds it is telling you your house batteries are getting low.if it is going off constantly it is in alarm get out of there.if they beep 4 times then quit then beep 4 times more it is most likely telling you it is defective time to replace it.hope this helps.

The LP gas detector in my Funrunner will start chirping if the battery gets low... So watch out for that, but don't confuse it with an actual LP detection.

IIRC, CO detectors must be mounted low.
dirtbikeguy2003
My Warrior Has three detectors, A battery powered smoke detecter mounted high, A Carbon monoxide decteter hard wired in about the door, and the LP detector hardwired low on one of the walls.

Ok so the one up above the cabinets is the Carbon Minoxide, which I have disconnected because it is too sensitive.

Anyone know why it would be so touchy? Is there something in my trailer that is producing too much of the gas?

That should be the one that chirps when the batteries are low. If the batteries are fully charged and it still chirps start getting concerned. Do you have a slideout or an open window? One trip mine started chirping when the batteries were fully charged and the generator was on. I aired everything out and it started up again. After a couple of tries I noticed that the seal on the slideout wasn't properly seated and came to the conclusion that CO from the generator exhaust was getting into the trailer and setting off the alarm. Closed the slideout and the chirping went away. Hasn't happened since.

Mine will beep 4 times every 10 sec if its hot outside and i dont have the windows open or a vent. I keep my buggy and quad stored in it also. That is the carbon monoxide detector. It was disconnected when i bought the trailer. I think i know why now. The LP decter beeps when the batterys are low.
Fireman
The Co detector will go off at 24 parts per million and is up high above the door ( mine goes off at night when the smoke from the camp fire drifts in the trailer) and is only hard wired no batt.in the WW trailers

The LPG detector is down low because the vapor density of LPG is greater than 1 and is only hard wired no Batt. in the WW trailers

The smoke detectors in the WW are Batt only no hard wires

Batt should be changed when you set you clocks back and for you AZ peps that every 6 mths The smoke detectors should be cleaned after every trip to the sand because of the dust build up.

Now were talkin!!!!!! Makes sense about the LPG being heavier...so as it turns out, my carbon minoxide detector is what I have disconnect, high above the cabinets.

NOW-anyone have any idea why it would go off other than Carbon Monoxide? Seems like when the trailer was new, it was ALWAYS going off. I disconnected it since then, but am going to reconnect it see what happens. I am thinking it had to do with glues and adhesives burning off and maybe leaving some funky gases lingering around.

If you pull the detector out it has an expiration date on the back, if it is chirping every few seconds it needs to be replaced. I had the same thing in my WW FS3000 and had to replace it, I found the best deal on Ebay.

No Sh!t? huh...gonna look into that...thanks

The LP gas detector should automatically turn off the inline valve if it detects gas. I always turn off the main valve and flip the switch on the detector to shut the inline valve off too.

I found it for about 30 bucks on Ebay. Here is the model my WW has, CCI Controls Model 3400 Carbon Monoxide Detector 12VDC. You'll have to specify surface mount or flush mount and color depending on what you have.

FYI, I just got home and check my detector in the trailer and there is a replace by date on the face of the unit.

Mine will go off if I have the door open from the dust. It is mounted right above my door in the warrior and if I have the door open and the dust gets bad like everyone coming back from the drags it will go off.

Not sure why but it does.

Topic Revitalization!

I was on RV.Net a while ago, and someone mentioned a smoke detector that can be muted for up to 15 minutes with a remote control (fan, TV, DVD, VCR, sex toy sraptor.gif whatever.) rather than having to grab a chair and try to pull the battery when you cook. Since detectors have a finite life, if you need to replace yours anyway, this may be the option!

Pretty sure the propane detector is mounted close to the floor (propane is heavier than air ??) on most models.

On our WW CL the Smoke detector is on the ceiling, CO detector is mounted above the entry door, & propane under the bar along the floorboard.
