Isn't it a shame that when ORBA started they told the business owners that they were going to raise funds and dole them out to the OHV user groups. Now, they just run their own show with little experience and little to show for their efforts.

It's worse of a shame that they don't send the kind of funds needed by a group that is getting the job done at Pismo. This group has gotten more done and save more opportunity than and sand org I can think of.

Just think if the Friends of Oceano Dunes had the kind of funding that comes from ORBA to, for example, other sand groups -what they might accomplish.

Kudo's to Jim Suty and the entire group who have done such a great job!

Glad you asked.

The latest,

Over the last 25 years, state parks has been leasing a large amount of the dunes and the camping area from the County of San Luis Obispo. The lease on this part of the dunes, about 500 of the remaining 1500 acres, ran out in June of 2008. State parks attempted to purchase the property but the anti-access crowd (Sierra Club and CBD) is fighting it because they want to shut the place down. The county bowed to the pressure and is leasing the land on a month to month basis indefinitely.

FoOD has filed a lawsuit against the county in this regard and results are pending. FoOD has 3 other lawsuits pending at this time as well.

Hence the need for donations, join the fight here FoOD
