We saw Tim Farr on his factory Honda smoke ALL the Yami's last weekend at the Moster Jam. Of course, those are all race-prepped bikes, not a stock 450R by any means.

After watching Tim Farr and being a honda guy myself and knowing honda's first year production bikes have very few problems I would BUY THE HONDA FOR SURE.

Chaparral has one on their floor with sold and do not sit signs all over it.

I heard a rumor it was quite detuned from the CRF450 dirtbike but I don't know if that has any merit or not.

Pipe, jetted, open air box, and cam mod.......the YFZ effn rips!
I ran against a YFZ that was built by Ron Woods, holy shiat, that thing was unreal.
I can't believe I'm saying this outloud, but I am very much considering the YFZ over the TRX. Shhhhhhh, don't tell my Honda that I said that.

The quad motor has different from the bike;
Cam
Compression
Valves
Carb
From what I have seen on the subject, it appears that all the mods were in an effort to increase reliability and durability. I think they probably accomplished that.

why worry about having a certain brand? I ride the quad/use the parts that I feel will allow to go the fastest....doesn't matter what it is, if it works better, I'm going to use it.

Alright fellas, here it goes... There was a TRX out at Glamis this last weekend and here is how it went. A stock YFZ took it by 1-1.5 bike lengths. One of his friends wanted my bro-in-law to race him next. ( his has an ESR intake, cam mod, jetting)
How I ended up on the bike, is a mystery but by the time we reached the top of Olds, he was a good 3-4 bike lengths back. I was only at 3/4 throttle without knowing it. (first time racing the thing) The TRX guy didn't stick around long enough to conversate about his bike.

I jus got the new Dirt Wheels today....
They picked the yami over the honda in a shoot out between the YFZ...TRX...and the Gas Gas 450.
I got to ride a friends YFZ...and im not surprised that that conclusion one bit!!!

Dirt Wheels called the TRX a great trail quad!

don't always believe what you read in the magazines.....they are someone elses opinion and everyones opinion is different. Ride both quads and see what you like best.....not what magazine says is the best
BeachHead
Jan 29 2004, 03:28 PM
Yep...never completely believe what the magazines say. They tend to embellish things depending on who's the biggest sponsor, or try to not tick any of the advertisers off. The atv/bike mags seem to be the worst about that, but the car mags can be just as bad.
And it's hard to take what others have to say too seriously. Example..everyone says the YFZ's seat is too hard. While I haven't ridden one all day yet, I've sat on a few for a while, and it doesn't seem that bad. I suspect there will be hondas that beat yamaha's, and yamaha's that beat honda's....and then suzuki's will be released, and the cycle will go on. There will always be someone faster than you..so get what fits you, physically, financially, appearence-wise, whatever is important to 'you' ..and enjoy the heck out of it..

Jan 29 2004, 03:59 PM
A'men to that, I have a raptor and YFZ so I can enjoy the best of both worlds, but I stick to the raptor most of the time, with all the mods I have done, it is one cushy ride, cant wait to try out my new swingarm..

BansheE350, BeachHead & Screaming Ian are all on the money.
If everyone was after the fastest up the hil quad, everyone would have the new Yami.
Why the Yami was more than 3 hours behind the Honda in the Baja 1000?
The answer is, well just too many factors (rider, incentives, experience, bla, bla, bla).
Buy whatever quad fits your riding style and enjoy it. Don't believe what magazines have to say.
Screaming Iam, you have a nice Raptor, almost as nice as mine (just joking).
We have to hook up sometime to check out the gadgets.

Jan 30 2004, 05:47 PM
Bronco....tron's already got a yfz...and he picked up his trx today, and headed out to glamis already, so he probably won't be answering you for a couple days..

It will be very interesting to hear his perspective since he now owns both. I'm sure it's going to be a long weekend waiting to hear the differences between the two different bikes. I "think" he's gonna say the trx is a "plusher" ride, perhaps close to the same power as the yfz stock, and I bet he likes the seat a whole lot better than the yfz....(cause he already added an inch worth of padding to his yamaha) Honda builds a good product, and they have a reputation of having a great "feel"...so I suspect you'll be hearing pretty positive things about it..
