come on give the guy a break, at the age the smallest of helmets wont fit the little guy and he isnt blazing through the dunes with no regard to his kid. sometimes in a non busy area i feel its ok to putt around to give the small ones a taste thats how we get them started.

I 2nd that, theres no way you can say you have never done the same so give us all a break on the helmet thing

I totally disagree, I had my kids helmets at that age and it was 20+ years ago. We should always teach safety, safety. I realize that some of us may have done this, but that is no excuse in todays world when we know how fast things can happen. Please always practice like we play.

Helmets are designed to reduce the severity of head injuries, but they are most effective at providing protection from a direct blow to the head at speeds of 12 mph or slower.

I'm all for safety but you guys need to lighten up. You put your seatbelts on to move the car from the driveway to the garage?

Cool pics

I will almost always take a idle around camp no matter where I am camping. I am a firm believer of safety however there is a time and place.

Its also brings up the point, how many of you out there hammering this guy wear your helmet when you are loading or unloading your bikes???

big had
agreed, my point exactly....everyone is guilty of something...jesus my be our faith, but nobody in my home is him.......

Now in my defense the only pic where my son is actually moving is the last one on the quad and we drove around the truck once. The three wheeler is a dead soldier and I also have an old honda 80 I buried in the ground on our property for the kids to play on. I was just wanting to share some family moments we had and always someone has to critisize. I am sure the persons who critisize me for not having a helmet on or my son have never done anything wrong. I salute you. Just for the record my son does have a helmet and we do make hom where it. Oh and so do I.. Please have a great new year...

im up late and just got back from a long drive and now winding down, so i wanted to skim through the threads. my $.02 on the thread is,,, cool pics. thanks for sharing. helmets? sure wouldnt hurt. i am 43 and now have our first child (1.5 years) and will have him wearing atleast a small bicycle helmet in situations like this. just to get him used to wearing a helmet and practicing proper safetey. is it needed? maybe. but i grew up in a time were i rode in the car laying on the rear decklid against the rear window, staring at god knows what. parents would throw a crib in the back of the van and thats were we rode. yes times have changed, but we also get a bit over the top on some issues these days aswell. no question i am all for safetey and keeping our children safe as possible. but im sure alot of you also have seen the comercial were the mom dresses her two kids with about 100 feet of bubble wrap and sends them outside to play. its allways a judgement call. hey ive learned my lesson when i broke my back and became parralized from jumping a bike in glamis 11 years ago. but i also KNOW you can get hurt doing just about anything. in my rehap hospital there was a guy that broke his neck and became a quad (from the neck down) from changing a light bulb on his christmas tree. should he have been wearing safety gear? cmon now. if this guy was just taking his son for a quik little scoot around camp and fully aware no cross traffic was coming along, it is his call on what the child and he should be wearing. pictures can be very missleading and of course these days it doesnt take much to go all "omg look what this guy is doing" when you see a simple pic. dont judge too quikly, but by all means definatly be as safe as possible within reason.
now back to the thread...great pics. id really like to bring our son out there and let him experience the desert deal. i had to take 4 years off from the desert stuff for personal reasons, but i am now building a 4 seat chenowth with a honda 3.5 so i can get my family back out there. cant wait to experience it. we love the sand dunes, but plan to do alot more hard pack aswell. especially since we now live in fallbrook and OW isnt that far.
