looking to buy my kid a bigger bike the old raptor 80 didnt cut it in the dunes. was gonna buy a 250 ex $3500. then i searched used and found a 250X four stroke. can anyone tell me anything about it? i know its a kick start which is hard for a little man and its a clutch but is it worth a damn for the light weight duners? i found em for $1600-2000.

My wife had a 250x and she wasn't really happy with it to climb hills.

For flatter terrains it was good. Stiff suspension!!

Our friend has one and he did some good hill climbing on it, I think the 250 ex would be better, the 250x is kickstart and has a clutch, and the 250 ex has no clutch and is electric start, if ya have the moneyget the ex or if ya find a good deal on a 250x get it, go with whatever you find is the best

My vote.....250x.
Kick start....he'll get the feel for the bike soon....back in the day us kids had to PULL start our 200m. (the kickback darn near ripped our arm off)
And as for the clutch....1 day of riding should take car of that!! My nephew who's 8 yrs old rides my 200X all the time...no prob's starting nor shifting....get's alittle No Fear Factor happining once and awhile but he's good....
Besides....2-3-5yrs from now he's gonna want somtin bigger.

How old is your kid? My 12 year old daughter rides a 300ex picked it up cheap under 2 grand. It has electric start reverse goes anywhere in the dunes and when she needs more power there are all kinds of parts out there. Might not be what you are looking for but it is not much bigger than a 250x.

The 250x has changed to the 300ex, the old 250x where bored out to 300 and honda called them the 300ex

I BOUGHT A NEW 250X IN 89 IT WAS A GREAT QUAD (IT WAS A HONDA) IT GOT AROUND GREAT AND UP MOST HILLS. WHEN I WANTED MORE POWER I GOT A SHEE. MY NEW WIFE GOT THE 250X AND RODE IT FOR YEARS UNTIL SHE WANTED MORE POWER AND WE FOUND A USED 250R. YES THE 300EX IS THE SAME QUAD AS THE 250X EXCEPT IT GOT BORED OUT AND GOT ELECTRIC START.

there ok for the money. you can get an electric start for 180
