The az off highway permits are ready jan 1 for 25.00 a vehicle. You cannot get online or anywhere until jan 1. I wonder if there is going to be a grace period for this due to people being out in the dunes that week or a vendor selling these permits out in dunes. I really dont want to go to yuma mvd to get the permits. hassle leaving the dunes too deal with mvd and then back to enjoy the vacation.

If you get stopped and if the guy wants to give you a ticket whish him a happy new year smile and walk away knowing he is realy a bitter person on the inside and probaly would arrest Santa for B&E. Go home at the end of the weekend and purchase your sticker send a copy of it to the judge where ever that may be. I think he will probaly be a little more understanding than a cop who just wants to flex his authority and lack of common sense.

So how does this work anything under 1800 pounds needs a AZ sticker ( exe. Rhinos Quads Bikes) but not the buggy if it has street plates and is over 1800 lbs? I just need to get my ducks in a row.

There was an announcement a few days ago (it's been posted here and on the ASA site in several places) that the stickers would become available on service arizona on the 1st. But it would take a week or two for offices to have them.

BLM has said in their FAQ that for the "2008/2009 season" they are considering RV plates from AZ as sufficient.

The new AZ stickers are needed for riding in AZ and will be needed after the 2008/2009 season (technically as of Jan 1st but it sounds like they aren't going to push it the first few weeks) for riding in CA. You will need to have an RV plate as the sticker goes on the plate just like the stickers on your car plate. So if you haven't registered yet register now and it will be an easier transition.

Right now your RV plate is OK for the dunes but not for anywhere else in CA. We need the CA out of state stickers, some people buy them as a CYA in the dunes right now but that's really just tossing money into a broken system.

As of 1997 registration in AZ has been required. It's not heavily enforced but has been required for some time. If you're from AZ and have just been getting a CA sticker you are not legal even to tow the OHV in AZ. In fact due to high OHV thefts AZ has a statute on the book allowing officers to stop you to inspect any OHV's for registration if they see you transporting them. So even if you don't rid in AZ if you tow in AZ with an open trailer you're opening yourself to tickets if you don't have your plates already.
