TRON - flat out ROCKS..
Thanks a ton.. Guy showed up in 13.5 sat morning showing off the new plastics.. Let me take her for a quick RRRRRIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPPPP. Man that new bike sure is nice and has TONS of neck snapping speed and power. Even with the knobbies on it - it hooked up great. Whoops and jumps were way easy and plush..
My poor Z400 looked pretty tired after that one..
Congrats on the new ride and thanks again for the ride..

Hey Folks,
Sorry, was enjoying G so much decided to stay another day.
Ok, Honda vs. Yamaha:
If I had to summerize the Honda it would be: Smoother. It is more comfortable to sit on, a much nicer ride, handles whoops better, shifts betters, engine is smoother than the Yamaha, and just seems to be better built in general than the Yamaha.
The kick start is both cool and a drag. Something neat about kick starting, and it starts very easy. As Chummin pointed out to me, use the Hot Start button when the bike is warm - don't know how it works, but it does. Drag if you kill the engine then need to kick it to get going again. I ended up bump-starting it a few times in the dunes.
No neutral light. No battery. Cool LED rear taillight, nice headlights.
Now, for the question most want to know - which is faster?
The Yamaha. I was on my Yamaha and let a friend's kid run the Honda (he is 90 lbs lighter) and we raced about five times up Olds and the Yamaha won every time. Honda had the advantage through the whoops but the Yam caught and passed the Honda every time. Keep in mind the Yam had the air box lid off, baffle out, and was re-jetted.
The Yamaha needs to driven hard, and delivers some kick butt power.
Both bikes are great, but they are different. As it stands now, my kids get the Yamahas and I'll be on the Honda. Of course, the Honda will be going in for a few engine mods...but that will be the next story.

Tron....thanks for the reply....One thing this jerbronie appriciates is the fact that you gave a seat of your pants opinion of the 2 machines!!

No influence of the magazines out there, and knowing you own both now you have no reason to be bias.
YFZ450 is what i'm going to be buying spring 04, mainly on the "Looks" and secondly on the aggressive riding style the machine needs!! I based my desicion soley on the input of all the G.com folks....nobody i know around here has one.
Appriciate the honesty bro
Keep the rubber side down

Cool that bike sounds awesome, the only problem I saw with the honda 450's is the gas tank, it goes from red plastics and then to a black gastank, it would look better with a red tank cover, congrats

If ya can......thanks in advance
the Honda is sounding a little more my style the more and more i look and hear about it.
im not really sure why so many people are concerned with whats faster stock?

I also really liked the way the plastics are put together on it. if you bust up a front fender - you can replace just that fender - not like my Z400 where you would have to replace the entire front of it..

I'll Never Change! - I LOVE MY BANSHEE!
I'll always ride my rocket
Seriously though: Tron thanks for the 411, it helps when deciding which one to get my son. Gotta admit though - you can't beat a Honda for reliability! We've been trouncing the ol 400EX around for awhile - only air filter cleanings and oil changes.
Gotta love that -
