Camping in wash 22 in Oct., we went for a buggy ride to Olds. Somewhere on that ride my cell phone slipped from my pocket & got lost. Well, last week my Dad gets a call sayin' they found it, turned it on, went to "contacts" brought up "dads cell" & called him. He gave them my address & a few days later here comes the phone in the mail. Phone still powered up but must have gotten run over because battery cover won't stay on. My question is how should I thank, reward the person that returned it? Thank you just doesn't seem enough!!! It cost $2.02 dollars to mail it plus the hassle. Thanks Dan

Get online, find a decent restaurant near their house and send them a $25.00 gift card for that restaurant...
You can never go wrong with a free dinner...

I'm sure they dont expect anything.
They know that you already recognize them as good people.
a little reward, such as those mentioned, will show them that you are the same type of person.

Lost my wallet 5 days before Christmas. Cancelled all my credit cards and went to the DMV for a new License. Gave up on the ideal that there was good will in men and that someone would return it after 2 days of it missing. On the 2nd day there was a message on the answering machine that a gentleman by the name of "Bill" had found it laying in the middle of the road in front of the Sheriff station in Santee.
Apparently I had sat it on my tool box prior to leaving Costco. It was on top of my keys in my jacket pocket, so when i was trying to get my keys out of my jacket pocket i pulled my wallet out and sat it on top of my tool box to get to the keys and you guessed it, I got in the truck and drove home.
Went to meet Bill who lived just down the street from me to get my wallet and palmed him $200.00 when I went to shake his hand to thank him for returning my wallet and I.D.and restoring my faith, that there is good will in men! Bill said to me "that's not necessary, but I've been out of work for the last 6 months and every little bit helps" I couldn't have been prouder to have given him that reward for stopping to pick up my wallet, the wallet that I had looked for and driven past 4 TIMES lying in the middle of the road. Everything was in my wallet nothing missing, just a little thrashed.
To all the peeps who have taken the time to return lost or missing phones and wallets THANK YOU...

it is funny... I have found a cell phone, hand held motorola radio, and a purse. Out of the 3 people... 1 was thankful and it was the one whose item cost the least. The purse... was spread out all over the road, I picked up all of the contents (except for the ran over makeup) and contacted the lady... in it was her cell phone and all c cards etc.. She was acting put out that I could not deliver it to her and had her come and get it at my work (6 miles from where I found it).
Next time I find something lost like that...
I will return it again.

We found an iPhone in the sand when they first came out. It took a while to figure out how it worked, but eventually we did and got in touch w/one of the owner's contacts who got him in touch with us. We met at the drags and he tried to give me $200 for it. I refused the money and told him just to make sure to pass the same courtesy on. I only hope if I ever lose something that someone will do the same.

My son found a cell phone on top of the first ridgeline by Gecko Loop. It was sitting right on top of the sand. I had to ride away from camp to get coverage and started calling contacts. Ended up mailing it back to the guy. He was so happy to get his contacts back that he sent two Billabong sweat shirts for my son.

A couple of years ago we lost Russ' cell phone at Buttercup. Drove all over looking for it, tried to call it from my phone, nothing. We thought we were up you know what creek without a paddle as it had all of his business contacts in it. On the way home, we got a call on my phone from his phone...two 16 year old girls had found it. Gave their parents our address, and sent them each $20 and a thank you note. Wanted them to remember that it pays (not always monetarily) to do a good deed.

You could make a post on a website that you are a member on and tell people how you lost your phone and some other personal items and then some of the members who seem to be "holier than thou" can post about how stupid you are. Oh sorry different thread.
It is a great feeling when someone returns items that you have figured were gone for good. I have left a few tools in customers machines over the years and have had them returned back to me. Anytime we drop the bellypans on a Caterpillar its a game to figure out which mechanics tools they are. I have returned some that were gone for 4 years from the owner.

I recently found a Blackberry sticking out of the sand while we were out on a ride.
It was flashing "low battery" and it was kinda' confusing figuring out how to work it, but it was fun doing the detective work to get it back to him.
I found a # in contacts that said so & so next door, so I called that one who turned out to be the neighbor of his rental house, who told me the name of his wife to look for. Found & called her, she told me where to ship it, guy called me back later and told me that he's a contractor and the Blackberry has all his business contacts in it. He was very appreciative and offerred a reward which I told him was not necessary.

Had I seen this post beforehand it would've cost him dinner and a movie.
It just feels good knowing that I did the right thing and helped somebody out, and hopefully someone would do the same if they found something of mine.
Nice job.

All good point but don’t lock your key pad. Found a phone out by olds and the key pad was locked. Got back home and somebody said to try calling Verizon. But the phone was dead by then. So just took it in to a Verizon store and said I found it. They said they would charge it up and try to find the person.

just knowing you did the right thing is enough. Karma. If your ever in the same situation do as they did for you. When I was inmiddle school my friends mom couldnt find her purse with all of the night deposits from their business, 5k! As i walked in I saw the purse sitting behind her sons motorcycle rear wheel. I picked it up and said" Is this it?" She said yes and took it from me. She told my son not to bring me around cause I was a little crook! They found out later it had been her older son's friend that was trying to take it. I never did get a reward. Oh well!

I was leaving a beer festival one night in Virginia and found a wallet. I was walking through a dirt parking lot in pitch black and I happened to kick it which is how I found it. I pulled out the guys blockbuster card and called blockbuster and gave them his account number and they gave me his phone number. Called him up and he was ecstatic and immediately brought me a case of beer for the wallet!!!!

I found a wallet when I was working security at a festival in AZ. It only had an ID card and 2 medical cards for her and her kid. I called information and got her number. She came down to pick it up and didn't even say thank you. She just bitched that she had 3 cigarettes in there and now there's only 1. WTF? I don't even smoke.

My cousin climbed Mt. Whitney. He took a bunch of pictures when he got to the peak, but forgot his camera there. He had his name and address engraved on the camera. He received a package in the mail about a year later. His camera was in the package along with a note. A couple of climbers from Europe had climbed the peak and found his camera sitting there on a rock. The camera had been on the top of Mt. Whitney for over a year, through the winter. My cousin got the film developed just for the heck of it an amazingly enough the pictures came out, although a little distorted. The last picture on the roll was of the two hikers who found the camera. They had taken a picture of themselves on the peak before sending the camera back to him.

Christmas eve coming from the in-laws house a few years ago.. Getting on the freeway where was a wallet in the road and it was getting trashed.. I pulled over and back up the ramp..
Wife and I got out and grabbed as much as we could find - stuff was all over the place.. Found lots of plastic, few business cards, license and some misc stuff..
Called a business card and asked if they knew the man on the ID.. they were a bit reluctant to give up his info - so instead gave me his work phone-number.
Called and it was a grocery store - asked for the man and he got on the phone. Told him we found his wallet and grabed all we could in the traffic.
he explained he just gased up (top of the ramp) and must have left it ontop of the car.
So we drove to his store and handed him the remains..
He picked through it and was amazed all the credit cards were there as well as his license.. said there was like 10 bucks in there but that didnt matter.
He said he couldnt pay us and I said it wasnt about the money..
He took us back to the meats - said he was the butcher and we could take anything we wanted and as much as we wanted..
Wife and I eyeballed a couple rib-eyes and said "those".. he started to load the entier freaking rack into bags.. we stopped him and said "Just the two on top".
He smiled and walked us to the front telling the cashier - "They are on me"..
It was a great Christmas the next day.. Felt good to..

Thats what I was thinking!!! Hell last weekend the ol lady went out with some girl friends to Tarzan's in Laughlin and she found a ring in the bathroom noone was in there so she brings it home and we call golden Nugget sunday morning telling them if any one lost a ring in the bathroom on saturday evening have them call us. So I get a few clowns call on it then I get a guy that described it to a T , he then goes to tell me how his wife took it off to wash her hands and some girl Swiped it from there and RAN out never to be seen, mind you my old ladies ring is 1 1/4 carat princess and this one was as big or bigger, so he goes on on how it was swiped and so on, i tell him he better watch who the hell he is accusing as if she snagged it why the hell are we trying to get it back o the rightful owner, well I made him send a picture of it as I am sure it is a 3k + ring and don't wanna give it back to the right guy. We met up @ Lowe's and the guy had an attitude and I said hey 2 things 1 tell her never take her ring off in public 2 watch who you accuse as I ws half tempted to just keep it when he tried to Accuse my girl of stealing, he said yeah whatever and left. Not a thank you screw off nothing. I mean I dd not ask for anything bu simply put a dinner a THANK YOU something would be nice!!!
