I'll be covering this race for Side X Side Action magazine. Should be a good time. Anyone else going? And anyone that attended this race last year, please let me know because I have some questions about the race.

Here is a press release about it.

One good thing leads to another. PIAA Corporation, a leader in Powersports lighting and accessories, will again team up with the World Off-Road Championship Racing Series (WORCS) to host the 2nd Annual PIAA 8‑Hour UTV/ATV Endurance Race, announced PIAA Powersports Business Unit Manager Gordon Robertson. The event will take place Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Speedworld Raceway in Surprise, Ariz.

“Last year’s inaugural 8-hour race was a huge success,” Robertson said. “We proved to the ATV, UTV and Powersports industry that PIAA lighting products are indeed the best in the world, proven everywhere from the Baja 1000 and Daytona 24-Hour sports car race to the World Rally circuit.”

As the presenting sponsor, PIAA will again provide financial support as well as offer a contingency program that will encourage racers to use PIAA halogen and HID lighting products. The race starts at 4 p.m. and finishes at midnight: having a PIAA-equipped vehicle will again be a distinct advantage.

“WORCS races are the ultimate test of man and machine,” explained WORCS owner Sean Reddish. “Teaming up with PIAA, the industry leader in power-sports lighting and putting on an UTV and ATV endurance race was a home run.”

PIAA Again Sponsors 8-Hour ATV Race 2-2-2-2

Teams will race non-stop for eight hours around a 7-mile loop that starts on the Speedworld motocross circuit before heading out into the Arizona desert. Separate overall winners will be awarded in both UTV and ATV divisions. For UTVs, racing classes include Unlimited, Modified, Stock, and Ironman/woman; for ATVs, classes will be Pro A, B, and C; Women’s Pro A and B; Veterans 30+; Masters 40+; and Ironman/Woman.

PIAA’s contingency awards should inspire all competitors: Overall finishers will be awarded $500 for first, $250 for second, $100 for third. In addition, each class winner will receive $100. To be eligible, vehicles must use PIAA HID or Halogen lamps and run PIAA decals.

PIAA is also offering entrants the opportunity to purchase PIAA lights at a special discounted price. For details on this offer, as well as info on all PIAA UTV and ATV lighting products, visit www.piaapowersports.com or call 503-489-6666 or email gordonr@piaa‑usa.com.

Other race contingencies include WORCS’s 100% Pro Payback to the pro ATV and the Unlimited UTV class, and Motoworks exhaust’s $1000 payout to the overall ATV winner– if they run a Motoworks exhaust and decals.

For entry and class information, plus rules and regulations, visit www.worcsracing.com, or call 435-635-1597. Pre-entry deadline is December 31, 2008. Entry fee per team is $200 pre-entry, $225 day of race.

Since the race ends at midnight I'm debating spending the night or driving home. If anyone else is spending the night out there maybe we could have some cold ones around a fire.
