Just made my first one and waiting for the smoke to start and temp to stabilize before I put it on. Can't wait to try it, smells so good before it's even cooked I can't imagine it not being great!

I couldn't resist adding some cheddar to the mix:

Grill is just about good. Can't quite get it cooler than 250 though

Smoke is smelling great though (2 small cast iron smoker boxes.)
Should be putting the explosion on in just a few minutes!

Mine came out great. I ended up having to lower the grate on my grill to find a spot that held 225 and went through 2 bags of smoking chips. After almost 3 hours it was still only showing 150 in the center but we had to get to the game so I finished if off on my friends grill (No smoke there, but with the temp over 140 already not much more smoke flavor would stick anyway.)
Click to view attachmentFinally about halfway through the 2nd quarter it was done. So no finished photos since we were a little too busy watching the game and chowing on bacon at that time.
The result? Pure deliciousness!

Just saw an interesting thing on the Food Network. Some restaurant makes a meatloaf where they line the whole pan in bacon and then put the meatloaf mix in/on the bacon and cook it. Sounds awesome! They serve it with the bacon still attached to the sides and bottom of the meatloaf. Yum!

I have lived a complete life. If I pass now, (which I may) I will go with a smile twords the light....
I had a chance to tag along with a group of guys who were camping over at the base of Split Mountain, and they do some inner 4wd stuff, crusing and looking at the views. Cool stuff.
I brought my bike, and did some riding, but one of the planned events was of course the 'course' no one had had before....
I did the Bacon Explosion for a camping trip! It was amazingly awesome! Although I didnt have a grease free hand to take photos of the build, I did take a few of the cooking.
Truth is, although it looks like it will explode your heart, you dont really eat that much.
Enjoy, we did!

This was my first bacon explosion done a few weekends ago. We followed the recipe to the letter, only straying by using pre-cooked bacon inside due to space constraints. We baked up some kroger (store brand) buttermilk biscuits and cut those in half, serving the slices of bacon explosion on them. It turned out, in a word, amazing. Ours took 3 hours, 20 minutes to reach 165 degrees using an electric smoker with applewood.
The next one calls for the same recipe adding smoked gouda pieces inside as well as my Italian variant using pizza sauce instead of barbeque sauce and pepperoni and mozzerela instead of pre cooked bacon inside.
