I'm looking at purchasing a 5th wheel soon, however I have a shortbed Chevy, and the owner of the 5th wheel has a hitch for a long bed truck. It's my understanding I need a slider type because of the shortbed. Is this correct. Does anyone have a slider for sale, or what's the best place to buy need w/ install.
Thanks

I don't have one for sale, but I tow a LE3505 with a short bed. I purchased a slider from the guy selling it. He never used it on a short bed and I haven't come close to using it in a year. The last place I stored the trailer was on a cul-da-sac and the new place is also on a cul-da-sac and never had one problem. Just pay attention. This might help in buying one since sliders can be pricey.

I dont have one for sale but I do agree with wapawekka I have a short bed and havent needed to use my slider yet. Just make sure and watch what you are doing. As far as install is concerned it is very easy. My first time only took 3 or 4 hours. Now having an idea on how to do it I bet it could be done in 2 hours or less.

I have used the slider on my truck and wish I would have used it one other time. I have the dent in the back of the cab to prove it. It is better to have it than not have it.

Not to steal the thread or anything but how do I decide what WEIGHT of hitch I need....is it based on the total weight of my trailer and truck or just the GVWR of my trailer???

Stay away from a slider too much work or if you get a superglide the you will need to rent a crane to get it out of the back of the truck, the fith-Airboretwork unreal I love it and you can get more negative with this than a normal hitch in a long bed, it is a fith airborn sidwinder of if you dont want a air ride that make it just in a swivel.
http://www.fifthairborne.com/index.htmltake a look it swivels at the trailer not the truck but still puts all the weight were it needs to go,

Those hitches are heavy but they are nice. i just got mine installed in a short bed chevy. it does take two people to remove though, so i had a friend make me a cover to keep it clean. here is a pic of the cover.

If you have a shortbed I highly reecommend a slider. Eventually you will run into a situation when you have to use it or your stuck. You don't have to use it if you don't need it, but it could save your (_|_) if you need it someday. I speak from experience.

I have a Pullrite 24,000 hitch in my shortbed chevy and I love it. Just keep on looking on craigs list and here for one for sale. I bought mine off of craigs list for $800 for the hitch and the mounting system which when you remove the hitch the bed is free from any rails or mounting brackets. I move my hitch in and out by myself, I have a wheeled tool cart with wood block on top purchased from costco or sams club, dont remember which place but it is the perfect height to match up with my tailgate when its down. I just put a couple of towels on the tool box and slide my hitch out of the truck onto the tool box and roll it into my garage. Its real easy to do. If you go with the pullrite make sure you use the graphite spray for your tubes. You can find a good deal if you take your time, new they sell the hitch for about $3,000 and the mounting kit for another $1,000.
