Hi, Ive got some ideas to run past some of you on my suspension.
first of all , its an "old school" buggy, beam front link pin, swing axle rear. 1915 VW. This buggy is a lot of fun and I can honestly say I can go anywhere and up any hill with it, with a little bit of authority.
My idea is to soften the ride (older age, back, etc.) So tell me if I'm on track or wrong. Also keep in mind I'm on a budget (kids college, etc).
I thought to put a 6" wider beam on the front with through rods and 8" towers, coil over shocks.
For the rear my options are...leave it swing and go with the long axles and longer coil over shocks.
Or...change it over to IRS (trans also) and go with a wider, such as a 3x3 arms , remove the torsion bars and put on a coil over shock conversion kit. Or leave the torsion and go with an applicable shock.
My mind is starting to spin with all the options, so any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Bruce,

Carefully look at what you want to do and how much you want to spend. The price of parts is probably not down even a fraction of how far sand rails have fallen.

Consider this:
If you buy all the parts you need, install them and then dial things in, tune them etc. you might have more into your buggy (maybe even a LOT more) than if you sold it and bought one that already had the stuff all installed and working.

All the parts required (there is a surprising amount) will add up quickly and even the small stuff (details) can have a significant expense.
Maybe look at the classifieds and see who has a mid travel rail that they need to unload. You might be surprised.

Very good point Journeyman.

Thanks for the responses guys. That is a very good point Journeyman about selling and going with a different buggy. I will give that a lot of thought.

With the right shocks torsion bars and setup this thing will ride like a dream. Post some pictures so we can get a better idea how your car is set up.

I have to agree with this^^^^^

Add up just the back end: New tranny or change the swing to IRS Cv's, axles, stub axles, boots, bearings arms, welding in pivot points for arms, spring plates, bolt shocks etc.
