Hi everybody, after a couple of years of not riding in the dunes I have returned with my KX500. What a great machine! Anyway, I wish I had more float on the front tie. Currently I run my front around 6-8 PSI. I find that when I get in the really soft stuff the front end just sinks. We had a few rides this weekend out at Olgiby and everything was great as long as the sand was packed, But we found a few areas where the sand looked packed and going along in 2-3 the bike would just sink, Once wehn I came over the top of a dune going down the downside the front end disapeared up to the axle and stopped the bike cold, another time on a flat unridden area the bike just sank out and went up to the skid plate, I found myself wishing that I had more floatation up front, Any ideas?

Maybe a wider tire.. That seems to work on many.

The only thing I found to keep the front end from diving in the soft stuff was lean back and give it more gas?

I tried the kings front sand tire and it was worse. I think trying a supermoto wheel up front would work.

dang man 6 psi you wont get much more flotation than that. land a jump wrong and you should be smashing the hell outta your rim and pinching tubes.

what tire do you run?

trever has a nice idea running a street tire...thats what my tw200 has and turning that bike is super fun and stable...but its weird cause dunlop and michelin sand tires have huge knobs.....i run the dunlop 773 out in G...hear the michelin sand/mud tire is better just couldnt find it short notice when i was lookin to buy

Stiffen up your forks as much as possible. In fact having your suspension stiff out in the dunes helps out big time.

I've never changed from my typical bridgestone front tire on the 426. Put an 8 paddle on the back, maybe top out the forks in the triple clamps and call it a day.

Your tire is too soft IMO. It needs to be at least 9-10psi. Let it sink a little, it's not going to stuff or anything like that. More in your head than anything IMO.

i usually run 8 in the front and use one of those porcupine lookin ones cant remember the model off the top of my head.. or i run the kings ribbed tire up front icon_biggrin.gif
