Sorry dude.
You do the crime, pay the fine...
I do think its too high if that makes you feel better.

I would write a letter to the assigned court with what's on your mind. Should work to "reduce" the fine.....
Yes, I think it's overkill too.......

I do agree with you that the fine is a bit excessive, but it is what it is. Good luck in getting it reduced......

We're you riding it or was it just sitting at camp? If you got a ticket for it just sitting at camp that is a load of crap!!!!

I believe that the proof of correction $25 is what the fine is if you corrected the problem. You have to put a flag on, have a law officer sign the back of the ticket for proof of correction then send the ticket in with $25 and it is dismissed. You need to call the court to verify but my wife received an unsafe load ticket that turned out to be $10 with proof of correction.

i like ur answer the most! do you think thats all i have to do? if so i would pay the 25 happily. should i call them up and see if this is the case?
yes i was riding my quad. i was a few hundred feet away from my camp near sand highway. flag was leaning on the truck ready to be placed on my quad (flag quick release mount was on quad when i was stopped), i honestly forgot to put it on... i think 255 is just a little too steep for a flag violation.
any suggestions of what i can say to soften up the judge?

I think $255 is steep. If it is a fix-it and you can get away with the $25 great. Either way think of it as a lesson learned. I can not imagine how many different excuse LEO's hear of why poeple have no flag.
I got pulled over once, but had the broken flag with me and said I was headed to camp and fix it . He was nice enough to let me go.

My wife's ticket was issued by an Imperial County Sheriff with the order to appear at the Brawley Superior Court. I called the court to ask how to do a trial by mail. I gave them the violation number and was told that the violation was eligible for correction. They explained that I had to make the correction, (add seat belts to the back of the golf cart) then have any law enforcement officer sign the back of the ticket, then send the signed ticket with $10 to the court and the ticket would be dismissed. You will have to show the officer the quad with the correction before he will sign off on it. Look on the back of the ticket, depending on the agency and court, it may have a list of code violations that are eligible for correction. I am assuming that since you have a correction amount it should be eligible. It is worth the phone call to find out. Let us know how it turns out.
Also, you may receive a courtesy notice in the mail reminding you to pay or appear. This had the correction information listed on it but it showed up the day we were supposed to appear. We called and asked for an extension which was granted.

I leave the flags on the quad even when in the trailer so there is now way to forget.

I got a ticket once for riding on gecko I was only on the road cus their was no place to cross and the ticket was only 125 $ I hope you can get it reduced but I still think their is no reason not to have a flag in the dunes even if you are in camp but the price of the ticket is a lil high if you ask me

It may depend on the agency and jurisdiction that writes the ticket and the violation code whether or not it is a correctable violation. Lets just hope that in this budget crunch they don't do away with the option to correct the violation and reduce the fine in order to increase revenue.

I got one 3 years ago on my dirtbike and it was $50. The Leo explained to me that since I was cooperative he was going to site me with the federal violation. $50 check in the mail and done.
He explained the state violation was up to the Imperial County judge, and that it was usually $125.

Can you tell us what the exact section they wrote you for? If there are different sections out there I wanna make sure I ask them to cite me for that one if it ever happens to me.

I've heard stories of people getting tickets for no flag while loading or unloading from their trailer. Is that really possible? Why is a flag required while in camp for rails, quads etc., but a truck seems to only need one while in the dunes or at the drags? I'm gonna start putting a flag on my motorhome before I drive in just to be safe.

i got a flag citation at the grodons drags , i had it on when left camp and when i got to the drags,, i made a pass down the strip,,, my flag came off,, when i came back around to find my kids the federal LEO stopped me,, i told him i must have just lost it,,, my daughter came running up with the flag i lost,,, he said that he saw me moving without it so i was getting a ticket zero tollerance ,,,, it was $55 and a $25 processing fee,,, no way out no reduction and i had to send money to the federal treasury ????? what a bunch of crap i was pissed after i put the flag back in and still got a ticket!!!!!

I think i have the best "are you effin kidding me" flag ticket. I was pulling out a guy in a f350 with a 40ft 5th wheel who was stuck down to his frame. I was about 100ft from the road and it was obvious that i was not duning, considering that my truck was attached to another truck and a 5th wheel. My sister and brother in law are on patrol, i have nothing but respect for law enforcement but when he was giving me a flag ticket for that I wanted to punch him. It was ridiculous. My friend actually has a picture of me being written up and you can see the yellow tow strap connecting the two trucks. I need to find that, its hilarious.

And I don't think $255 is unreasonable hell make it $1,000.00. Because if you aren't smart enough to get a flag and go the fix-it ticket route you should have to pay thru the aS$

I have a flag on the Motor home. It is mounted 8' off of the ground on the back ladder. It is 100% legal. I just did that to be a wise guy, looks like everyone should.
But receiving a flag ticket for pulling another truck and trailer out of the sand. What a jerk that LEO was. Unbeleiveable.
