My neighbor came by Friday night to borrow a couple of things and said they were going riding at the "Bad lands" by Ocotillo Wells.
Is this a real place or just what they call the area they ride in ?
Shelvis
I've only known it by the name Badlands. It is a gorgeous place but kinda eery at the same time! I have pics in my phone but do not know how to load them to the puter or I'd share!

Jim and Melissa have posted pics here on GD.....some great pics!

Maybe he'll bump the thread they were in!

If you're talking the area south of the 78 off County Line rd then yeah, it's a real area but I think it's more official name is "Mudhills" or "Mudmounds", haven't been there in years, really cool area, of you're brave enough to go in far, you'll feel like you're gonna get lost in there.

The "Borrego Badlands" are about 11-12 Km due west of Pumpkin Patch, or a little N/W of Borrego Mtn (Blowsand). You'll need a street legal vehicle to go there, as it's outside the OHV area.

Don't go alone.

anyone wanna go????

All of those areas are in "Street Legal Vehicles only" parts of the desert. Jim, since you guys have a jeep check it out but try and go with another vehicle with tow ropes just in case. This is why I wanted a Jeep but not yet!

Thanks everyone for the information.

I could probably dig a couple up.. Its between Split Mountain road and The Blue In on the South side of the 78. really fun for both Bikes and rhinos.. Theres an area out in the Superstition Mtn very similar and offers some cool extreme rhino and riding...

I will tell ya it IS ! We get bored going 50 mph across the flat so we go and get those rhinos twisted up in some good stuff. It always amazes me just how well those things do .. If you have at least two rhinos you can Go just about anywhere in there. We take pride in actually carving our own trails up and down some of those mud hills,.... We camp at the 3.5 off wheeler up the trail a ways and its awesome ! A little further to get to the actual sand mountain which is just fine with me..

We actually did the Carrizo bad lands the last trip out. We started by going through Fish Creek and then took a side trip and ended up coming out on S2 through canyon sin nombre. Lots of narrow canyons with high walls. Some places had some rocks to get through. but a good trip. Again all is limited use meaning street legal vehicles

Yeah I am a bit guilty of venturing down some street legal only trails and its a BUMMER cuz theres some good stuff there !
We camp over off the 22 (right on it) right after that big radio tower thing . Its actually legal there but no one knows that. There is usually a camp full of jeeps on the North side but thats it and you can take all of these really cool canyons in every direction. I think people are catching on, we had a few groups ride up out of one of the canyons from the more popular camp ground towards the 86 and they were scoping us out pretty good .. pics from two weeks ago in that spot. Which place >> Ocotillo or Superstition ?? Both places have wicked mud hill stuff, I would say its very under rated, but I guess I may be ruining that buy telling my story on here.. But I would want you to tell me tongue.gif

And that would be Matt Brown right there. We have been threatening to go riding together for about 2 years now.

Is this the trailer with the Chevy wheels that busted all the studs off?

You would be right there.. He needs someone to ride with right now, I broke myself really good before the season started racing at Glen Helen so hes missing out on some riding !! Bring it. We go about every weekend somewhere. I have been learning the cool rhino spots with the good stuff since I am on the Injured list.. Its not easy getting my rocks off in a rhino but i am trying and any time in the Dez is a GOOD TIME !!! yay.gif

You know it, That was a major PAIN IN THE ARSE right there, I cant believe he blew THREE tires on the way and he was like 4 miles from camp .. We had to get VERY creative with that one, some serious head scratching and beer drinking to figure how to get Chevy HD wheels and tires on that thing...

ah crap..secrets are getting out..sometimes ya gots to use the PM feature to answer questions...we dont need flatbiller ford rangers there...... tongue.gif
LaDSM
Flat Biller Ford Rangers in the Badlands makes for interesting recoveries. 2wd in some of those deadending canyons with no traction can get interesting. Night rides are even better when your headlights loose sight of the ground and after you get out to look the road just stops and there is a cliff that drops off. Good Times

yeah I know I was thinking about that, but this is a site primarily of peeps that respect the dez and are there for good times.....Right ???

this website can be viewed by anyone.. access is limited, but, not everyone is a stand up person. Yes, I would say the majority of people who frequent the desert are good, respectable folks who pack it in pack it out....but as with most places, i am finding the party/rave folks have caught on to the cop issues, and are hiking it deeper into the desert in hopes of not running into the cops out there....kinda strange to find a leftover campfire and trash in the middle of nowhere...about 10+ miles from the camping areas....

Our group calls that area the"SLOTS", big portion of it is now fenced and guarded. The real bad lands are way out past Shell Reef, next time you're at the top take a look out in the distance. Those are some bad lands to get lost in.
