What problems will the rain present in Ocotillo this Prez Day Weekend (Feb 13-16)? Flash flood warnings? Is staying home the best advice? Any experience toyhauler's when wet in Ocotillo?

The rain has never stopped us from heading out there. Just make sure you aren't camping in a wash or low lying area. The possibility of epic riding is good! There is only a 30% chance of rain (sunday) as of now. That hopefully means a little rain to keep the dust down and all is good yay.gif yay.gif

Skimming across the whoops and over puddles is way to fun to pass up. If the rain makes it sloppy then we'll hop in the rhino and still have fun.

Most of the time the rain doesn’t make it over the mountains. Just put out the ez-up and the awning and have a good time. It won’t stop us from going, Poker in the trailer at night if it’s raining. Just a little more clean up when you get home. 25cheers.gif

I heard the rain brings up the salt in the area (due to being next to Salton Sea) and SALT is not good for undercarriages of TH or even bikes. The cleanup if true is hosing off the undercarriage of TH and pressure washing the bikes. Is this true or just a myth by those who aren't going want to rain on your parade?

Never had any problems with salt after rains out there. Where we camp is at least 15-20 miles away from shore. When it rains about the only thing to worry about is mud. Go and have a good time

Im not to sure about the salt. But I’ve been riding out there for years and just pressure wash and spray down with wd40 after words. That’s what I do after Pismo or San Filipe. lots of salt out there.

Weather.com is saying showers Sunday Monday Tuesday.

I wouldn't worry about the salt, just a good washing when you get home and everything is fine.

Rain..... All I can say about that is PRAY for it, Ocotillo is EPIC when the dirt gets wet !! Theres a few spots out there that get sloppy but mostly just dustless awesome riding, however dont count on it.. I have driven through some of the worst down pours I have ever seen all the way out only to make that last left through the narrows and have it dry as a bone....I tell people all the time, thats why its called the desert..

the salt is a myth....unless you drive into the salton sea...

all ground has a salt content to it, and lime, calcium, etc are also found in socal..but causing damage to your equipment??? Not an issue any more then anywhere else you ride....

I was out T-Day week and got my car pretty muddy out there. It took me 2 days to clean when I got home and I can tell you that there is definately something corrosive in that dirt. A couple of heims where pitted pretty bad. To say its just your average dirt is misleading. In fact, my tires always turn a greenish blue out there also.

Another great weekend out there. No rain at all. yay.gif

I went and Prez Weekend was awesome in Ocotillo Wells. Perfect. Not a pin drop of rain. Unlike my avatar, I had nothing to cry about. Drove home in down pour on Monday morning. Other than that it was outright awesome. The only wind was on Friday between 3pm - 430pm. That was the last of it. Not cold. My buddy missed out on a great weekend.

It was one hella drive home Monday , just glad I wasn't towing . Haven't driven in rain that hard in years . Had no need to wash the bike or quad when I got home .
