Greetings, folks. Have had my Car awhile, and to save the trouble of frying a clutch, and snapping CV's(already did that) trying to wheelie, can the pros give me some helpers of gettin that front end in the air, without thrashing anything?
Dune FREQ
Umm sure watch any of my videos on dunefreq.com haha. Killin It Krew uses no clutch to wheelie....well unless they are upshifting mid-wheelie

Yeh. I saw that earlier in my 'Wheelie' search!! Good stuff! They are using the uphill of the terrain to get up, though. I know. I know. It's still getting up, but I'm inquiring about wheelies on flat ground, basically.
On another note, I just rigged a great SandCam on the car! Hi resolution camera, wired into a Hi Def cam corder!! It's a bullet cam. I'll post some footage after the 'trial run'!! Works good going around the block, anyway!!
cnred195
Some cars do it alot easier than others. My old Tatum, anytime anywhere. My new car, you would need a floor jack to get the front end off the ground.

HP will do it...........

If you are dropping the clutch, it will break at some point

Push petal on right down. Dont touch the one on the left. If the one on the right alone wont do it, then it wasnt meant to be, otherwise using the left one will make things get expensive in a hurry.

Hahahaha...funny!

Nice video btw. Nice plug for SCU.
TNT...you sure you wanna sell yours?

Sounds like you have a hp/torque issue!

If it's not hp...there might be another reason...

well first of all do you have to power to wheelie? what motor/gears/tires you running?
RIPSTER
can you give us specks on your car and maybe a little better pic so we can see how your car is set up?
TACO
Flat ground is gonna be hard without some kind of little kicker to get the weight to the back. Maybe a little torque bounce.....punch it, let off and when the car recoils from the front end dropping after letting off hit it again....pretty hard these days with the double bypasses and there being hardly any recoil but yeah....you need a hill of some kind without some crazy KIK horsepower...

well a supercharged small block should be able to pull wheelies but i doubt the 800+ hp unless its really built with an insane cam...maybe you don't wheelie cuz the tires are overpowered and just spin, maybe some 35s ?
WildBill
My car is hard to wheelie as SU's have a lot of weight on the front tires. It took me some time but I figured it out.

I'd have to say it is all about timing. Find a riser and a spotter and practice. Try backing off the throttle to load the front end then hammer away as you approach the lip of the riser.

Good luck, you'll get it.
jayduner
Don't go any bigger in tire size with that MD4S-2D or E model. It won't handle it.
ONE-A-DAY
It also has alot to do with the gearing in the trans.

My SCU, 2400 lbs, 500 hp at the wheels, @ 500 in torque, will come up no problem in second gear on flat ground. With third gear it needs a little bump, or something to get it going. The Funco, with 450 hp, comes up no problem in second gear on the flats as well, but it is geared extremely low. On dune runs in the 90's I am about flat out in 4th in the Funco, while the same run would be flat out in third in the SCU.

Here's the car in action. When I look at it, it seems the front end is low. Front tires too small??? That much more lift needed to get up??? Also, I've had it out about 4 times and haven't charged the shocks. Someone told me, if not fully charged in the back, any torque that would lift the front, is getting absorbed by the droop in the back at acceleration! Physically, that sound legit!
wreck
Nice launch...looks like it landed good....also if you would have gone up that dune slower and then got on it at the top for sure wheelie...that looks similar to an area the Sandwinder guys where using to wheelie...

That car was built by Dennis at Sandbuggysupply in Cerritos Ca.There is a article about it in one of the old Sandsports Magazine. It was dynoed at 493 hp at 8psi of boost pretty sure that was motor hp not at the wheels.I have a sand buggy supply car with a 440 ls1 I can get the wheels up but it for sure is not a wheelie king.i have the 33 blasters with the shorter paddles which makes less traction.

I think it was said before but CBM can solve your problems.

my car is around 3500lbs/ puttin I liked to say 550 to the wheels, when I had my ride height sprung up more my car would wheelie to no end, in the air shifting from 1 thru 3rd but I was hopping like crazy in the whoops, and the ride was just horrble, so we reset the suspension and allowed more droop, changed air pressure and now my car launches out of the hole, but the wheelies are far and few , I have to have a little riser to wheelie, but I actually like the way my car re-acts with more droop, bro if you got 800hp you should have at least 500 to the wheels and should be able hit a rise a wheelie forever, if you'd like I would be more than happy to drive your car and give it a shot !

Yepper!! Dennis built it. I got it 2nd generation! My buddy bought it cash from Dennis during that photo shoot. He swapped out the block for some TANK of a block! Beefed up the main bearings/4 bolt mains.Swapped the intake for a custom one. Dennis has been alot of help.
I'd like to get a TOUCH more grab on the back, but dont want to risk the tranny goin'. I thought of the higher paddles, with fewer of them, but that may be the same as runnin' the 33's on there.
Well next trip will be a good one, as I just had Vortec refurbish the SCharger!,(major squeeling you can hear in the video), and charged the shocks!!
Thanks to all for the input!! See ya out there!!

550hp to the ground, 3100lbs, 17'-6" long. My cars not what you call a wheelie machine, but find a roller and punch it in second or third and it will come right up.

It sounds to me like you have a traction problem and with the trans you are running i would leave it at that! Just learn to preload your front end and on the recoil hammer down and if that doesnt work than give up cause any other way will cost money in the long run!

Here's a suggestion for you. Find another one of those dunes where you would jump like in the video. Instead of jumping, slow it down where your tires will not go off into a jump and at that speed gas it in 2nd gear... front end should come up, from the torque from the wheels instead of monetium of your buggy.

Keep practising like this and gradually move to a dune that has a lees of a incline and do it again. Pretty soon you will get how to do it with a gradual dune.

After a while you will get to really know how your buggy will respond to any hill or roller.

I hope this makes sense.

And if all else fails, refer, (no pun intended) to the minute marker 3:00 of DuneFreqs video in his post and observe and take notes... icon_cool.gif
woodster
Like Ripster said, its all in how your car is setup. My car put down 700HP to the wheels on CBM's dyno and it takes a pretty good roller for me to wheelie. But thats how I like it. I could really care less about doing wheelies, especially running the hill. If you tighten up the rear, and take out some droop, you should have no problems. Also air pressure is a huge factor as well.

.....wheelies with all that junk in the trunk should be easy sarcasm.gif

however; wheelies with a front engine/torque converter are all about horsepower icon_wink.gif
a healthy 572 cid twin turbo BB with 855 hp on the big paddles lifts the front at will even with almost 2000 lbs weight on the front tires hoverman.gif

...but the downside of front engine wheelies is that there is no rear overhang to safe your bacon; you can go arse over titz if your not carefully tongue.gif

I had a few of those rear wheel episodes at 90mph standing straight up, and almost went over, thats why I did a little suspension re-work, lift off was a little narly, I like the on the ground launches out of the hole, and leave space launch to nasa!
I have an Iron big block being build for the chevelle, hope to be able to get a good wheelie out of it .
