My dad worked at Valley dodge in the mid 60s and has been wanting to build one of these for quite a while. Like everything he does every inch will be first class. The wheel wells were opened a couple of inches for the bigger tires and the spring perch is now in the frame rail instead of outside like stock. It will have carbs that act just as air valves and it will be fuel injected.
Motor is just a dummy and he won't build the actual motor until after paint. This will be a street car and should run in the 10s. Like everything it is for sale partial or complete but I hope he keeps it so I can drive it at the track. I also threw up a pic of his 53 Oldsmobile with a 502. He just recently finished that one.

The tire is just a dummy slick for setup and measuring. Good ole classic Crager wheels. He already has had this thing up on a big body rotisserie and has a ton of time welding and replacing the rusted out floor panels.

Way cool, my first car was a 63 belvedere I bought for $50 when I was 15. Who supplied the dana 60?

This will give you an idea what an A-990 recreation looks like. I love how simple it is under the hood. Car won't even have power steering. No rear seats and the battery will be in the trunk. Not sure where the rear came from. I know he told me but can't remember. I will ask. I know there is a rubber snubber that he tells stories about these cars back in the day and that snubber banging as you go through the gears. Oh and of course this one will be yellow.

The pinion snubber combined with super stock springs made them launch pretty good.

A friend of mine Lenny Austin bought one of the factory race cars new a Hemi Plymouth with the battery over the right rear tire and delete everything. He took me for a ride in it when he had only had it for a couple days and it was bad fast. He ran it at the drags for a lot of years and I think he still has it. He named it the Black Plague.

One of my all-time "favs"!
I grew up near Indy and went to the "Nats" from '62 to '75. As you know, '65 was the second year for the new Hemi, but I thought it was the year they really made a big showing.
I've always built Vettes, Camaros, Novas, etc., but a few years ago I bought '65 Coronet 500 "builder" in the White Mountains, for my next project. The plan was an altered wheelbase street car! I soon realized that my custom paint biz consumes all of my time, so after about 6 months, I gave it to a friend. (It's not all bad ....I have the best job in the world!)
Beautiful build ...and I am glads you picked an exciting color instead of the generic white! Please keep the pictures coming.

Donor car for all the little hard to find bolts, hardware, trim, etc, etc, etc. This car will get sold when he is done scavaging(sp?) Apparantly the two doors are now so rare to find, guys are taking a 4 door, moving the b pillar back and installing the longer doors from a two door. (If you can find doors) The length is the same on a 4 or 2 door.

He will be ordering engine internals soon. It will still be fairly mild. Eagle rods and crank stroked to 4.150 for around 472 cubic inches. He is going to have them do big block chevy sizes on the rod journals and keep the wrist pins on the pistons small to keep the rotating weight down. Approx .600 lift on the cam. Should be very drivable. The key will be fuel injection and how much air he can push through those big chambers. He modified a set of purchased headers and will run those for now but may hand build a set later.
