Just appointed by Senator (SB 742) Steinburg...
-------------------
Stan Van Velsor
ORV Campaign Coordinator
California/Nevada Office Office: 415-398-1111 Email
Stan Van Velsor joined The Wilderness Society in September of 2006. As the Off-Road Vehicle Campaign Coordinator, Stan works with a coalition of organizations and individuals determined to protect large areas in California’s national forests for the enjoyment of quiet forms of recreation and to ensure that off-road vehicles are managed in a way that reduces their impact on the natural environment.
Stan was raised on a dairy farm in Michigan and spent countless hours roaming through the fields and woods on his parent’s farm. This early connection to nature and the outdoors planted the seeds that would eventually blossom into a career in conservation and natural resource management.
After graduating from New Mexico State University with a B.S. in Wildlife Science, Stan began his career in natural resource management as a resource specialist with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Stan left the BLM to pursue graduate work at the University of Michigan, completing his M.S. degree in 1990.
He has worked in environmental education and spent several years in conservation grant-making as Program Manager of the Pew Fellows Program in Biodiversity Conservation. Stan’s most recent work has been in the nonprofit world with the Sierra Club and now The Wilderness Society, where he has found his niche.

Not knowing any more than what I posted about about the man, its difficult for me to pass judgement about him.
SB 742 vastly changed the duties of the OHV Commission. They are nothing more than an advisory group with little of any teeth. Its not like they have the control over things like decison on OHV grants as they did in the past.
At least in the Governor's appointments since SB 742, I suspect (with good cause) that Daphne Greene - the Deputy Director of the OHV Division - had a great deal of influence on those decisions. None of these commissioners were folks that have any real current involvement on the day to day issues we face.

Works fine till the next Democratic Governor comes along, giving all the power to that one branch of State Government will be the big fall in the end, perhaps that's the reason why he can take $90 Million from us without any fear at all...TJ

This actually could be a real problem, if you look at the new role of the Commission what's going to be left over for opportunity, even more so a problem now with the $90 Million Dollar "loan"...TJ

This job description just screams anti OHV to me. Why does he only work with groups determined to protect wilderness for "Quiet forms of recreation"?

By law all Commissoners must be "fully informed", you can bet this guy will be more than holding us to every Enviromental mandate, this along with the $90 Million Dollar "loan" will leave nothing for oppertunity. Agian the only way there will be any money left for oppertuntiy in future years, is if some legal way can be found to block the transfer of our OHV funds...TJ
