Ok, So I have this question, a good freind of mine who lives in AZ has given me a bike of his to store, he has a ton of projects and needed space so I stuck it in my garage, the "catch" was I get to use it when I want LOL. We went out to the dunes and had to problem, blasted around and had a good time, the bike is not registered and because of AZ's laws, you can simply just get a out of state residence permit, so the question is.... If I get pulled over on said vehicle...will the ranger impound it because I am Cali with a AZ bike? If i paid for the permit I dont understand why their is so many politics.... AND where can I get the permits in glamis???

If it is registered in AZ you will need a AZ plate with the new OHV decal ($30) affixed to the plate and then on to the bike. New law in effect jan 01, 2009. I got tagged for not having the plates physically on my bikes (3), 105 dollars a pop, this was at Gordons Well. Pretty bummed about putting a plate on a race machine, but whatever it takes to be legal I guess. I got the out of state OHV stickers the next morning and the Ranger came back and checked up on us and said it will work.....for now. We go to Gordons and they were available for purchase at the general store at Duners Diner for 30 bucks a pop.

I absolutely hated drilling the holes into my back fender....stupid - I wish they could work out just having the sticker on the bike.

I didn't want to purchase any sort of plate mount - plus I didn't want it getting in the way - but you have to have the plate 'affixed to the bike and visible from the rear' I took some kitchen cabinet liner - cut 2 layers to lay under the plate, and then just drilled the sucker right on.

It does suck - but FYI, if the bike is going to be ridden anywhere (except for tracks - I'm not clear on that) it needs to be registered. It shouldn't cost that much - My boyfriend got his bike registered with the sticker for about $50 I think.

Is the bike not registered at all?

If its registered in AZ, then all that is needed is the OHV sticker from AZ attached to the plate.

If its not registered at all, I'm thinking you might have some LEO problems.

Some sort of ownership or registration document needs to be assigned to the VIN of the vehicle. Otherwise, if a LEO cannot run the VIN and find a legal owner, you will likely have an issue that could get the vehicle impounded.

The California Non-Resident permit is sold without any requirement for the seller to have the VIN verified before selling.

here is the story i have...... my buddy lived in washington, bike was registered in oregon, washington didnt need any form of pink...bill of sale is all that was needed..... hes run the bike for years with just a permit.... however, we arent sure about my ca residense.

from the BLM website; Off highway vehicles that do not have a valid registration or permit from the owners home state (incl. Mexico andCanada) will be required to purchase a California nonresident permit (sticker) through selected vendors in CA, NV,AZ or may also be purchased from CA Deptartment of Parks and Recreation 916 324-4442...It does not say that you must have a proof of ownership on site if your bike is from another state, just this out of state nonresident sticker for $30....... I barrowed my uncles rhino from nevada which has no state registration and no DMV proof of ownership, there was just a hand written bill of sale from the owner to the buyer at time of purchase,so is this non resident sticker valid to use in glamis and all I need if a blm agent pulls us over. I'm planning a trip out there before it gets too hot and just wanted to make sure we abide by all the rules

I'd say you need the non-resident permit (sticker), some proof of ownership (depending what your state provides) and if your not the person who owns the vehicle, likely some sort of letter with an address and phone number providing the LEO with enough information to verify you are authorized to be in (on) the vehicle without the owner present.

Otherwise, it could be a long day as the LEO's sort it out.

What the hells with all these stickers and permits? I mean dang we already have to buy a permit to go into Glamis, now we have to buy a permit to RIDE in Glamis? Isnt that what the other stupid 90 permit was for? Christ! Cant we just lobby for some "bailout" money so we all have a perma pass?
